STX setup sharing thread (2023)
 

Finally getting around to creating a thread for this year :D

I got some more done on the car last year and did a bunch of events. Overall I'm happy with the setup, less so with the driver :lol:

- GReddy (KW V2) coilovers, 6k/9k springs
- Karcepts front/rear sway bars
- SPC Rear LCA w/Diftech bushings
- SuperPro Front LCA bushings
- 17x9 +35 RPF1/Falken RT660
- Whiteline rear subframe bushings
- Redline trans, diff, and brake fluids
- Camber 3.5F/2R, Toe 0F 1/8"R toe-in
- Hawk 5.0 brake pads
- Goodridge SS brake lines
- RacerX master cylinder brace

This year's planned updates:

- HKS Header/Borla exhaust
- Killer B oil pickup/baffled pan
- ECU Tune
- STi engine mounts
- Steering rack bushings
- Ground straps
- 5k front springs

We'll see about a driver mod too, although that's usually harder to do because it's not in a catalog. Setting aside the results, it's a really fun car to drive.

You might want to revisit the rules, I am not sure all of your listed plans are legal. Also, is the master cylinder brace legal?

OP keep an eye out for an Evo School, do recommend, when I went a long time ago 25 runs on a course with good feedback was totally worth the price of entry.

I always like these threads, I usually hold off on posting because I want to at least trophy at an event before I hold my own setup skills up as anything to follow lol.

Thanks for the suggestion, half the reason I want to drive better is to prove my setup works. A trophy (at a national event) might be too much to ask, but it's fun to try :D

An Evo school is a fantastic way to learn to be a better driver. I loved the ones I did way back when. Not sure what the current format are for them, but I highly recommend you finding one and doing it. I went through a set of Hoosiers back then at an Evo school, this was when the Hoosiers were called A3S03 or A3S04, if that tells you how long ago that was.

It is. I actually wrote the letter that got it changed back in 2018... and didn't get a TYFYI back. I was running one on my WRX locally and then threw the letter in.

Author's Request: The purpose of a master cylinder brace is to improve pedal feel and modulation. The feel is near exactly similar to adding stainless brake lines, but without the installation hassle if your stock brake lines are good. Additionally, with stainless steel brake lines, dust and dirt can get into them, eventually causing leaks in the inner lining. The master cylinder brace is the perfect solution for those who want better feel, but not the downsides of stainless lines. Stainless steel lines are already a standard modification in street touring and master cylinder braces should be too.

Are there any more affordable legal options to reduce brake system weight? I know the AP Sprint kit is a big one that saves 10lbs per corner up front, but $2500. Anyone tried the Ceika kit - half price! https://ceika-store.com/collections/...oducts/cbk1426

What are people setting their rev limiter to?

Mine is at 7750 which puts me around 59.5 in my 19 on 255's :(
I heard some are running 8k?

My car has the power and handling bits, but it hasn't got much weight reduction or a diff yet. How important would the weight reduction stuff be? I've done a 13lb battery, but nothing else to save weight.

I ran it in Beeville Pro this weekend and got whomped in bump class, but I redlit away around 13th place in the index. Not sure if these cars do well in bump, but I expect not given less power. Fun watching Scroggs hustle his new Elantra N though :P

If you haven't already, I'd suggest doing the pan and pickup if you're going to raise the redline, especially if you want to push 8k.

I know you can only modify 1 rear suspension control arm, so you have to choose either RUCAs or RLCAs. I currently have SPC RLCAs, but I want to change to Racer-X RUCAs. I think the RUCAs should theoretically provide better suspension performance, but I am primarily trying to address the fitment mismatch created by pulling front camber from the top of the wheel via camber plates versus pushing rear camber out from the bottom of the wheel using RLCAs. With my aggressive spec street wheels the mismatch is noticeable.


My question is, will I need toe arms if I switch to RUCAs? I am only going to run about -2.2 degrees of camber. I don't need toe arms to get toe in spec with -2.2 degrees of camber and the SPC RLCAs. Are toe arms even legal in STX?

To my knowledge the spc aren’t legal due to the bushing design, but as you say only one arm and the scca rules mean you gotta pick one of the three to modify. The other two must remain stock (can modify bushings in them though).

Doesn’t matter though, factory adjustment on the toe link is plenty for 2-3 degrees of camber with lowering in my experience, never come close to maxing it out, swing for the uca if you think it will help.
