GF ran over median. Smooshed front jack point.

Hey everyone.

Long story short, she drove over the median at an intersection head on.
Surprisingly the bumper somehow didn't get hurt but she did some pretty bad damage to the part that is the front jack point.

Seems this is connected to the hood latch above because now the hood latches but has enough play I'm scared to drive on the highway.

She also demolished the large metal plate protecting the catalytic converter and oilpan.
I had to get a new one. The catalytic converter itself has a big dent in it but nothing is rattling inside.

I took a look and the best way I can describe it is that the jack point is smooshed up.

Please see the image here: https://i.imgur.com/hqgqJsX.png

So my question is kinda... what would you guys do?
I've already jacked it up by that point since and it SEEMS strong still.

My friend says my options are basically have a body shop try and pull that part down again to fix the hood issue. Or else see if they can get a new one and spot weld it (wouldn't fix the hood problem though).

I don't even really know what to call that part. I just call it jack point but it's spot welded to the body itself it seems.

Just looking for some advice guys. Thank yoU!

the hood latch is not directly connected to that piece. If you open the hood you'll see a bracket that goes down behind the radiator that connects near there and that is what the latch mounts on to. Check the bottom of the bracket the hood latch is on and see if it's still on/damaged. Also see if you can adjust the latch a bit, it's only like two or three bolts (12s I think?).

Ouch, sorry to hear of your bad luck...

I suspect there is more damage than you are seeing with the 'naked eye' The front subframe and radiator support is likely 'tweaked' if you now have play in the hood when latched.

It's going to need to go on a frame machine that can take specific accurate measurements to determine how bad the damage is. I'm sure it is fixable, not sure the cost.

I'm going to guess you are also going to have alignment issues unless properly repaired..

Check if the subframe and alignment are good, if they are it’s likely not as big an issue - more cosmetic. I would check everything to get a real feel on the damage.

First off, I'd suggest you find all kinds of reasons NOT to let your GF drive your car anymore - ;)

Second off, like ol @alphasaur suggests, try to adjust the hood latch.

Iffen that don't work, Bubba says to do an aggressive hood latch adjustment with a crowbar and a BFH.
