I know a guy at our local cars and coffee that installed the grimmspeed hood dampers. He told me the best thing about them is they lift the hood a bit higher than the others which means less chance of banging his head on it when he does engine work. Super easy to install as well.

Dittos. The bracket that mounts to the hood is larger than any competitive product on the market. Highly recommend Grimmspeed.

Grimmspeed ones bottom bracket also has a tab that goes in one hole that keeps the bottom bracket (on fender) from moving or spinning, which was a problem I had with the ones I installed on my WRX.

For our cars there are GrimmSpeed hood dampers and "those other dampers" which could be called dozens different names including Greddy, Gimmick etc (just look at pictures: they all have identical construction - either copies of fakes of each other). Take the real stuff from GrimmSpeed and enjoy. I do.

Thanks all. I will be checking out the GS ones. I like that the brackets seem to have a bit more meat on em.

One thing I have learned is "half-assed" is not in @GrimmSpeed's vocabulary.

SO much love in this thread. Thanks everyone for the recommendations!

Let us know if you have any questions about them at all. Here is a 24 page thread that we kept up while we were working on and developing these: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22658

There are also a number of great videos on youtube that I've found from people who loved their GS hood dampers.

But if you're curious about anything else about them, or any of the design considerations just let us know.

Thanks again everyone, we really appreciate it, the support from this community is overwhelming.

I have a question of the community...

On our in house test car we installed the GS hood dampers long ago. Everything fit and worked flawlessly. Until out door temps went over 100deg F. After the first hot day of summer the damper bodies swelled (and never shrunk). The swelling has now caused the bodies to rub on the inside lip of the fender removing paint from the car and the dampers.

Anyone else experience this? Selling of the bodies after hot days.

I thought the bottom bolt was supposed to point towards the outside of the car? That's how I have mine installed, at least.

Oh no! No we have not noticed that, but we'll definitely look into it. Unfortunately those are installed on the lower bracket incorrectly, which is causing your clearance issue. When installed correctly the hood struts are supposed to be in line, not angled like they are in your photos.

It's nothing a little touch up paint can't fix (the car, and the struts), but make sure to fix that installation issue, and you should be good to go!

Thanks for the heads up! Thats what you get when you let the tuner install parts on the car. He does own it. LOL.

I should have looked up the install instructions to verify.

I do know they actually worked just fine for the last few months and that the rubbing only began after the first good hot day. I did not mic the dampers (yet) but I can tomorrow and verify the installed set against an inventory set for gp.

I have plenty of WRB paint at the shop and the touch up is no issue at all. I just wanted to see if anyone else had encountered the "issue" as this is the first I have seen it. Bill let me know today about the rubbing, I ran outside and went huh??? Funny thing, I did not notice the brackets looking at my own pix. But I did notice the rusty hex key Bill left on the firewall, so I went back outside and removed it then left it on Bills desk.

The install instructions could have used a pic of the strut end installed on the bracket installed on the car to be a little more clear. I actually did the same thing at first, but after a few test opens and closes I saw it rubbing and knew that couldn't be right, so I went back and had another look.
