Now if only some intake manufactures would do this!!! I want to some some intakes that ACTUALLY make power post tuning but it costs me a lot of money to do the testing!

Stock + Blocks vs Stock

That's a really awesome offer on their part!

Ummmmmm.....
*raises hand*
I am looking forward to seeing the results of nelsmar's testing but I can't but help being a little skeptical. The saying "if it appears too good to be true then it probably is" comes to mind. From reading this thread I can't seem to find any disadvantage which flys in the face of "everything's a compromise". Is there a trade off?

Look at where the torque starts dropping off for both runner lengths. Crawford's may make more peak torque but it starts to drop off sooner than a stock torque curve.

As for low end power, it is indeed a little odd that there is no change there.

Can't wait to see nelsmar's tests!
The no low end loss can be attributed to the runners still being outside of the negative acoustics zone.

How long do these things look? 1 1/4"?

If it's a genuine acoustic-driven VE change, and possibly slightly better flow by entering straighter. These results should be easily verified with longer manifold runners, withe the same straighter curve leading to the head.

This stuff is old, and related to stuff like changing trumpet lengths on ITBs. The science is real, but I would wait to see if Crawford's application is real.

And whoever is testing them, shouldn't you need a built block to handle the massive power gains?

Heh...

Well the trade off of longer runners is high rpm power loss. It shows this on the dyno plot, but the gains more than offset the loss in this case. With cams and a valve train targeting peak power above 7k this could be an issue but with the stock cams and rev limit it appears to be a win win. It's a well established phenomenon. Think about the old b18 in the grs, the tundra acoustic induction manifold etc. Not a new idea, just surprisingly effective for this car. The question is how does it hold up to tuning, and when will someone tackle a variable system.

That's funny in a Crawford thread.

Crawford is 5 minutes from my house. Maybe I can stop by and ask a few questions myself.
Isn't it odd that these would be made from aluminum? That would raise the intake temps.

Approximately 40mm -> 19hp gain
so 12 meters equals approximately............ 5,700 hp @ 4 rpm!!!!!

This is the whole paragraph from Crawford's page: http://www.crawfordperformance.com/p...er-blocks-bpb/

Quote:
Crawford Performance is proud to announce our latest product, the Billet Power Block (BPB).
CNC machined from Billet 6061 aluminum, our BPB sandwich between the cylinder heads and the intake manifold to create longer intake runners. The lengthened intake runners enhance the volumetric efficiency of the engine which translated into an increase of 19 Horse Power, 15 Pound Feet of Torque and narrowed up the torque dip by 300RPM on a totally stock BRZ. Our BPB also works with any aftermarket tune, exhaust and intake components. Our original road testing was done in conjunction with our stage 1 reflash followed by extensive dyno testing with and without a tune.
Sounds like creative interpretation. *shrugs* I can wait for a 3rd party dyno on a completely "stock" car.

It wouldn't be any different than stock. The OEM block the manifold is bolted on is aluminum. The intake manifold itself is plastic, so it is already less prone to heat soak.
