86 lights won't fit on a BRZ unless you cut the inside corner. BRZ lights will fit on the 86 but you will need to fill the inside corner.

might be. if you look at the photos the angles at which they were taken were slightly different, that could be the reason for the confusion.

i remember reading an article somewhere that they are physically identical.. but i'm not sure if they were stating that out of fact or pure speculation.

I don't know I kinda like the 86 hid headlights, if scion does not offer them as an option then I will go with the BRZ hid lights. They can't be that expensive...it's not like it would be wrong to do it since both cars are like the same.

I wouldn't bet on that. I had a '05 G35 6MT and it had HID lights, but they were reflector types and not projector. So I bought the entire headlight assembly from the '06 model (a lot of ppl did this btw) which are HID projector types, along with the D2R bulbs and did the swap. Thankfully, there were a lot of great DIY instructions from the forums so I did it myself. It still cost me about $800 to $900 after it was all done. The headlight assemblys themselves cost around $750. I dunno what the FRS/BRZ ones will cost, but I doubt they will be cheap.

Oh, and the '05 and '06 models were identicle except the lights so it was a simple plug and play swap.

It looks the lights are the same, but the BRZ bumper has a "pocket" for the inside corner of the light.

Yeah, figured they'd be pretty steep. The ones for the G35 were $750 and I got those in a group buy from a dealer for a great price. They were just the plastic housing/assemblies! Car parts just cost an arm and a leg.

Thought about the swap also as i much prefer the BRZ's hid but seems like the inside corner of the housing's are different.
