Would it be possible to search through a ROM backup with a hex editor? Maybe edit them manually? If you found all four of those values close together in the file...

Thats what i think is logical , and i agree with james but havent you already chamged all that stuff once ??, Id check the sensor clearances as per tsb as well

The rom area is fixed values any variable data is storred in ecu ram which is reset when you remove power from ecu. But their may be some other memory on ecu thats non volitile that may only be reset on a reflash but im jist guessing. Thier is other stuff storred in ecu like the vin number thats not in the main microcontroller. And it isnt reset with reflash or when you remove power you have to specifily address that area.

Just out of curiosity... Doesn't these CELs plague the early 2013 models of our cars? If that's the case, what changed between 2013 and 2014 models?

I'm in a chat group with local owners, and they all said to just swap the engine as that's the only fix. I think that's ridiculous and there has to be a fix, but as we don't know the root cause, it's hard to repair it.

Is your car modded at all? Ecu, rev limiter, pre cat exhaust?
Is it driven in anger....on weekends? Not like an angry jockey, but more like GTA? Oil change intervals? Perhaps built by old German engine builders with their signatures under the manifold...
Seriously, some of the above may matter.

Stock.
Though I use it to go for moderately long drives to places with more livestock than people.
Usually at the posted speed.

Could it be the hard parking that many seem attracted to?

I still think the secret failure is from shit jamming the main valve. The one I worked on came back. He's been driving it without issue for months now.

Is the procedure to reset or write to those other areas of NVRAM known outside the big house? Some jumpers, or a bench test system of some sort?

The one that the OCV solenoid operates. I think it's a matter of getting to it in time, before that ECU table goes too far out of whack.

All I have is my one success story, though. My friend got in touch with me as soon as his car threw the code, and we dug into it right away.

edit: It's number 3 on this exploded view, the 'spool valve.'

FINALLY got my most recent code scanned, the one that keeps flipping on and off, and thankfully it seems to have nothing to do with P0018 or P0016.

Code I'm getting is P0351, which is Ignition Coil related. It's just weird that this code only started to pop up AFTER having my P0018 repair performed, but it is what it is.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread so I may have missed something, but if anyone wants to test this, I'd probably give up my original ECU. Still haven't sold my BRZ but I don't much have a use for my old one.
