That's insane - you definitely should shop around, but keep in mind location is the biggest factor in price. Check all the major companies. I'm 27 too and have the exact same coverage. For both my lease and insurance, I am only paying $25/mo more than you in Wisconsin.

Consider taking a defensive driving course too. I got a speeding ticket reduced to equipment failure and because I had another ticket reduced within 5 years, I had to take the class to get it reduced. It cost me $50 and saved ~10% on insurance.

I never heard of that, but i will defiantly look into a defensive driving course. Especially if it cuts 10% off my overall.

Thanks!

Get with Geico. I'm 18, alone on my policy, and paying $108 with higher limits than you.

Its possible my insurance broker thought it was a lease which is whats driving my high coverage, but i wouldn't be surprised if he's doing it to get a larger commission. I was however thinking that it was the area is also driving up the price. Its great for me to understand that DTLA has above average claim zones, if you think about it its kinda expected for DTLA.

Many people keep insisting that this thread is useless but I find it very helpful. I am not interested in comparing my rates with other but understanding what parameters are affecting my rates and what i can change to get a better rate. Its also great to get opinions about what people are paying. If no one else is paying more than i am then chances are im paying too much. I was also unaware of what coverage is required buying vs leasing. Thanks for clarifying that for me. This is also my first brand new car, and the first time i have my own policy. I had a salvaged tundra before and was only paying $80 a mo. so its more than tripled since then. The truck was under my parents insurance policy, which most likely gave us a better rate.

Thank again for all your feed back
just to clarify, when i said DTLA is above average, i didnt mean it was abnormally high either.

For a somewhat relatable comparison, when i used to live in DTLA (zipcode 90012), i was 28, single male, owned just one car on policy which was a 2005 s2k, with coverage of 25/50 BI, 25 PD with a 1000 deductible. clean driving record and licensed since 16 yrs old. i was paying about $125/month with Progressive.

Man, people are paying a lot for insurance with these cars. I'm 23, live in NC and I pay $130 a month with Geico. That's with my truck and Miata on as liability, and the FR-S as full coverage. When I was 19, a brake line snapped in my first truck and I caused a 5 car pile up and like $10K worth of damage but that dropped off a few years ago. I got 1 speeding ticket that was reduced to 9 over but that also dropped off a long time ago. So my record isn't CLEAN, but there's nothing pending on it and I have no points on my license. Before I added on the FR-S, I was only paying $30 a month for 2 vehicles. I was told it'll probably drop down again sometime next year or later this year.

23 here, and I've been paying 250 a month through state farm, I recently stored the FRS away for the winter and canceled the insurance for the meantime, just ran a quote through Geico, and it came out to 130 a month. Planning to switch immediately.
