I can be in whatever gear I want in a given situation and still shift gears with both hands on the wheel?! Explain this to me please please please
I think people confuse "more control" with "more engaged". Sure you are busier with a MT but the level of control is no greater. In fact the AT has much better "control" since it can shift at the perfect times and much faster than anybody with a clutch. Of course there are those that think they can do it faster but they are wrong.
There seem to be two crowds that just do not understand.
First there are the young guys where the MT is exotic and strange and they get a feeling of superiority from driving it. Since they make the car do every single thing they think they are in more control.
Second is the old guys that have a bias against ATs based on the old slushboxes that they used to be. Their bias is correct if based only upon ATs prior to computer chip controlled systems since those things were indeed crap. I bet many of them have never driven a performance based modern transmission and just do not understand the improvements that have been made. Even now all ATs are not created equal and saying "I drove this SUV/sedan/truck and the AT was horrible" can not be applied the AT in the Twins.

Yeah. Clutch dumps and clutch kicks dont translate to MT.

And people act like those things are the end of the world if you dont have it. With a good AT it doesnt really matter to most people, even enthusiast

More control vs more engaged was what I was looking for but couldn't find the words

I know I will never be able to convince people over the internet but that more control thing is the one that always manages to get me riled up.

It is not coincidence that several of the "this cheap motor blew up even though I did nothing wrong" threads on here were guys that a month or so earlier were asking about what gears to skip, if they should coast or downshift and how to start out on hills. Also not odd that many of the warranty claims were denied by the evil dealers because there was strong evidence of over rev situations spinning bearings. Hell, in at least three of the threads the guys even said they severely over revved at least once but "that should not have caused an issue".
