Is FT-86 SpeedFactory explicitly recommending that folks coat their headers, for daily or track use? I have no former experience either modifying or purchasing aftermarket headers and I want to make sure I am doing it right.

We are not saying one should or should not coat it. If you want to go for it.

Both our shop cars are running our header uncoated and see extensive track use which is going to be way higher heat than daily driven cars. ( Silver Car is Catless Version, Red Car is Catted Version )

Curious as to why you wouldn't want to coat the catalytic converter? I would think it would be the one generating a good amount of the heat.

I'm assuming it needs to radiate off the heat so it doesn't melt the cat?

I'm talking out of my ass here, but maybe it is for the catalytic converter not to retain too much heat (better cat longevity?)

The cat does it's job by generating a large amount of heat in the catalytic core to burn off the undesirable byproducts of burning the fuel. Coating the cats will reduce the amount of heat that can be dispersed from the core and eventually cause premature failure of the core. The ceramic core could break down and in some cases, could clog the secondary cat and or muffler causing other undesirable issues.

Depends on what eventually is defined as. 2 years? 4 years? I have coated the cat on all my track cars with no issues so far. I just did the UEL as well with my second track day this weekend. Over 500 miles so far. It will be fine.

Check post 1073. In this thread. It doesnt show a base line but it does show the nice flat torque curve.

Just an update on the exhaust leak. It was nothing to do with the header (as I guessed), but one of the gaskets that came with Motiv OP was bad. I replaced it with the OEM subaru gasket that came with the header and she's leak free and sounds AMAZING! WOOO!
