RSR Dynamic Experience Day, passenger rides on the RSR Sports-i equipped FRS, Anyone?

Streets of Willow Springs Raceway
March 31st, 2013
8am~3pm

A raceway passenger ride experience, for anyone who is interested in experiencing the feel, comfort, performance, flexibility, and sheer joy of going beyond the budget constraints of a $25,000 FR-S and unleashing the chassis potential that's akin to a much more expensive car...

Just come out to Willow Springs and experience it yourself sitting next to us! RS-R Dynamic Experience car and Club4AG FRS will be there to give you a taste of what it's like to have RSR Sports-i Coilovers, and Falken Azenis line of tires.

It's held during the Extreme Speed Open Track day so you can see 75 other cars at speed, having fun too.

Rode along with Moto, he's fast!

I think the RSRs were set to the softest setting during my ride, car felt very stable and smooth.

Thanks, when you were in the car, my car was at 7 steps from softest on the 24 levels of adjustment, and on Falken Azenis 225/40-18 and Winmax AP2 brake pads.

I believe in compliant setups on most American raceways with less than glass-smooth asphalt, where tires can stay on the ground, and bumps do not upset the car's contact patch and ultimately the vector of the car. I'm not that fast, but the car remains very capable, and more-over it is predictable, enjoyable, and poised to give confidence to a driver who's out there to have fun, and chasing trophies is not part of his income or living, and for the car to retain it's comfort while driving OFF the track, which for most of us is 99.9% of the distance on the odometer.

My car is on Sports-i, Club4AG spec. (or Moto-spec as RSR guys call it LOL)

The RSR demo car was on Black-i and we were simply testing that for clearance and durability as that one is for the street, and with super-low height street comfort. No reason to be going 10/10 on the raceway with that setup. We just did to make sure it can, and it can safely and mannerly even on the raceway with a bit of spirit behind the wheel.

Not sure as the Black-i prototype may be off the car this weekend to inspect, and might have both cars on Sports-i. We will see. Thanks!

I wouldn't really consider it an upgrade or downgrade, since it is less functional than the Sports-i for ultimate use on street and track for performance standpoint with the Black-i.

What the Black-i affords however is the best possible suspension for those looking to drop the car visually below the limits of the Sports-i spec recommended -40mm.

Black-i is for making a road going sled from the FRS, at 45~60mm drop or more, (going beyond 60mm requires body-side mods like folding the weld seam ridge in the inner fender wells, with max operating range at about 80mm below stock!!!) AND sill having a really comfortable and useful handling. When cosmetic value is priority, and with handling intact as much as possible.

So the general rule is this:

Sports-i :
If you want a really nice part time track/ street suspension calibrated to the best capabilities of the FRS's handing. It will accommodate a range of drop from 10mm to 40mm below stock height.

Black-i:
If you simply have to have the lowest drop from a coil over with decent handling and comfort intact, and have it as ideal as possible at such height. It can accommodate a drop from 40mm~80mm below stock height. (with body modification needed to go beyond 60mm, by inherent ways that the FRS cannot clear the tire at the front beyond that...for driving, unless modified to clear it. Some will gladly do that to go there, and RSR can accommodate it for even those guys at -60mm plus!) Because of the constraints of how short the shocks and pistons have to be to make the ride so nice at such drop, the sacrifice is a little bit of the handling prowess as with any car.
But at the same time, I can assure you that at whatever height within the range of the Black-i, it will be the one of the best choices if you do want it that LOW....to the ground.
