BRZ backup camera wiring question

Hi folks,

Wired up a backup camera, powered it off of 12v ignition-switched and shoved a RCA female into pins 8 and 16 of the camera connector on the back of the head unit.

I didn't get any video to display.

I connected the video + to pin 8, and the video - to pin 16.

I heard somewhere that pin 15 (camera ground) should be grounded somewhere, even if you're not using the 6v power output on pin 7 to drive your camera (my camera doesn't work on 6v). Does anyone know if this is true? With just pin 8 and 16 connected, I'm not getting any video to display when I shift into reverse (I was not able to figure out how to get into the diagnostic menu), and I'm not sure whether I should try just grounding pin 15.
