Why would someone request an address change?? That would mean someone gets their bill paid for free then the next bill gets charged to some other guy??

I said address change but in reality a person could discuss personal information, scammers/fraudsters (when they get a bit of your personal info) love to call many places you do business with(cable, phone, credit cards) and try to get your info bits by bits until they have enough to fraud the shit out of you.


As an example for the address, let's say they go enough info to apply for a credit card in store but don't have access to your mailbox. Well calling the phone company and changing your address will/should create an address change to your credit bureau(within the month). Therefore, when they go and apply for cards with their fake address (sometimes a business, other an abandoned or under construction house). Since the address had previously changed and no foul play reported, the systems assume that this address is indeed valid(the fake one) and therefore may not flag the address change.


Meaning that the fraudulently opened card will be opened and sent to the fraudster at the address of their choosing(I'm simplifying it a bit as I don't feel like going on a 2 week fraud/fraud detection training, rant/workshop)
