Right? My dad gave it to me the summer before my 10th birthday. With my dad's help I broke and fixed a bunch of stuff over the next 3 or 4 years.

Little 6 Volt with a generator. We repaired that thing. I learned how to polarize it and why it was required.

Loaded and turned it on the bench with a drill - nothing

Polarized it

cranked it again - light illuminated and I could feel the drag on the drill.

I don't question the value, but intentionally drifting or losing control can put a site at risk... there are plenty of chances to learn control without keeping it over the edge. Or sign up for a drift event.

Didn't think you did. Until now, I had never considered it.

Keep that up and eventually it turns into drifting.
I'll eventually upload my videos (if im not lazy) from the past weekend. I heard everyone cheering when I was able to catch the car during the extreme fishtailing and come up with a clean run still.

C
Yeah, think this rule is everywhere but if someone gets all 4 wheels onto the runoff or does something potentially dangerous, their day is over.

I did, however grow up doing donuts with a '61 beetle on my parents' farm/airstrip. I feel it's a critical step toward really understanding the vehicle.
Now you know what you are doing July 10th at the big meet

Want to shotgun if you decide to hit the auto-x course or track!

Sure but I'm not the fastest by a long shot. I focus on smooth inputs including shifts which means my intervals are longer than someone wearing their game face, if that makes any sense.

I understand what you are saying :P

I'm still working on smooth steering inputs when entering a slalom along with steady throttle. Car is so direct that one little mess up and there goes your time.

Now I understand why people say this car (and the Miata) are momentum cars. Do everything good and you'll be rewarded, mess up too many times and disappointment will ensue.

It's amazing how much of a difference it makes to carry speed through a turn. It's much more rewarding to get it right when there isn't a big beefy engine in there to cover up the mistakes.

I know I have said this before but I will repeat. If there were more young guys like Steve around the car scene would be a better place (based strictly on my old guy point of view). In support of my statement I present only one year ago: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86937
