Powdercoating is much more durable. If you're looking to paint your wheels with duplicolor, I think you need at least 4 or 5 base coats.

Yup. I think Duplicolor does sell automotive wheel paints, which can withstand with brake heat. I used those on my engine cover, and they work great. However, I'm more concerned about rock chip than brake heat in wheel painting.

Simple solution: Plastidip

People plastidip their winter rims all the time up here and make it through the entire season without issues. And even if you do manage to chip a bit of the paint off (very rare occurrence) you can just respray the wheel in minutes. There's also minimal prep needed - no need to mask anything off as the paint will literally peel off the surfaces you dont want paint on (tires, valve stem cover).

You said it was your winter setup so it's all up to you how much time/money you want to dedicate to the project. I've used every type of paint sold in stores (spray paint) to paint rims and have no issues with heat from the brakes or debris destroying the finish.

That being said - the most expensive/durable option is always going to be Powder Coating. Personally, I wouldn't bother for winter rims but if you got the coin and plan to keep the XXR's for another 5 years this may be your best option over all.

See-- I am EXTREMELY against plastidip BUT... I'm thinking about giving it a try. They dont (Unless I missed it) make a bronze wheel dip, but they have gunmetal, which will be fine.

Here are my worries:
1. How long will it last?
2. Will any cleaners affect it? Im asking because I have a big brake kit, and I always spray the calipers liberally every wash to keep them shiny.
3. Will the dip peel easily from the area where the lug nuts attach (that general area)

Paint it. The temperatures are not extreme enough to do anything to the paint.

I used duplicolor engine enamel on my stock tC wheels and drove on them year round including going and getting snow tires put on and taken off. They lasted fine for 3 years till I went and repainted them a different color.

If you take the time to do the prep work, the paint sticks fine.
