Stock one-piece replacement rotors generally weigh about the same. If they don't, I would suspect they are of inferior quality. To really lose rotor weight, you need to go with a multi-piece rotor that has an aluminum hat. Something like these will save you a pound or two on the fronts and let you keep the stock brake setup.

These may not be the correct rotors, but call them and they will be able to set you up.

Generally the rears are tougher to loose weight on because they usually are all steel or iron because of the need to accommodate the drum shoes for the parking brake.

I'm going with the Wilwood BBK for a WRX (just waiting on a few bolts). Check my journal for more details, but it shaves 16lbs per corner. I should have some more feedback soon.

I'm going to talk to Brady at Pure Performance (where I'm having them installed) and see if he is able to get any deal/offer this kit. It's essentially a WRX kit with 08+ brackets and BRZ bolts for the brackets. Want to have them on and working before selling the idea to anyone. These are only the 4pot version, but for about $1K it's much cheaper than the 6 pot kit. So it might be a good option for some.

I installed the Wilwoods. Speed Factory has a thread on the weights. I think it was 8 pounds a corner less than stock. Front corner was 22.7 pounds.

Here is my thread:

Here are SpeedFactory's threads (prices listed).

Our 4 corner brakeman kit Time attack rotors with e-brake delete saves 66 lbs off the car. These are designed for 3 fast laps put 2 lb / side heavier front rotors and you have a kit that will lap 30 minutes without any ducting. add heavier 3 lb/side fronts and 1 lb/side rears and you have a kit that will run all day long in traffic.

I got it from a forum member who ordered it but wasn't able to use it per his class rules (SCCA/NASA). I'll update once I get them on. I got a little deal since "Scooby South" took a hit from what he paid. I'm guessing about $1K for everything.

- 12" Rotors
- 4 Pot Calipers
- Caliper Brackets/Bolts
- Stainless Brake Lines

I'd dub it the "Lite" kit for our cars. As I mentioned, I plan to talk with the Brady from Pure Performance to see if he is willing to offer them/can get a shop rate. I think for the price point they are a good option. I just happened to fall into them but I'm guessing these will fill my needs perfectly. I just don't want to jump the gun until they are on my car and show some gains. That's why I want to wait to talk w/ Brady as I'm sure he doesn't want to throw his name on something untested. I'm waiting on a few bolts to arrive but they should be here any day.

The reason I asked for rotor weight is because I am not about to drop 3-4 grand on a bbk, I don't need it.

This sounds like a really interesting option. Please keep us posted. I'm all for dropping weight, 16 pounds a corner is huge. I just hope it performs well too but at such a large weight differential I wonder if this will hold up to 30 minute sessions at a HPDE or something along those lines?

Rotors typically aren't the best place to save weight. Sure, it's less rotating mass. But rotors also act as thermal heat sinks (which is why they heat up). The less mass the rotors have (stay with the same material) the less thermal capacity they have and the quicker your calipers and brake fluid start to over heat.
