I peeled potatoes for a month.
As a gunner, I'd just like to point out that in transport, the rounds are basically inert. No harm no foul there, except for making a mess.

Yes I actually was gonna say that. Did not reduce the WO's wrath one little bit.

Though, are we talking 105mm or something else? Admittedly, my knowledge is mostly limited to 105 howitzer (C3) and 81mm (mortar). Though I do believe it holds true for most of our ammo post Korea, if not even WW2

It's not like they were going to cook off. Looks way more dramatic than the reality.

The story, however, remains epic. I've been involved in some crazy shit but never the cause.

Well, back in the day, the rounds weren't as stable as they are now. When I was doing my basic arty course, my det commander took a 105 round out of the packaging, fumbled it, dropped it and watched as we all started to run away then laughed his ass off.

Was 105s yes and that was about all we had back then. Even back to ww1 they were pretty much stable as far as shocks and impact went. Now heat or electrical charges were a whole different ball game. That really hasn't changed much to this day though.

I confess to having an obsession with nuclear weapons. The show "Manhattan" was just required viewing for me last season. I especially loved the moment after detonation of the Trinity bomb that "Charlie" turns around and looks and says "It worked." He seemed to have been as surprised as anyone.

I've heard that during the actual Trinity test, one of the senior scientists turned to Oppenheimer and said, "Well, now we're all sons of bitches."

Same here. I don't think I've ever been that excited about a series.
