^^ I wish you hadn't posted this confusing mess^^
That first pic shows the catch can between the front crankcase vent to the intake, which is a relatively insignificant blow-by gas source (as low as 10% of total blow-by) compared to the PCV valve. I have researched the purpose of the catch can thoroughly.
The second pic vents the same front crankcase outlet to the atmosphere, thereby eliminating the closed system, fouling emissions etc..
Neither of these configurations are intercepting the blow-by from the PCV, the main source. So much misinformation out there.
