Cant compare the two as Gugu set his time from standstill if the video is to be believed.

All GTLAPZ times are flying laps. Mucking around - not so sure. He crashed that BRZ that day... It's still with Subaru SA. I think they've fixed it though, and I know someone who's interested to buy it, and is talking to Subaru.

Yeah that video is edited, it's not from a standing start.
It would be better to use @Fish Eagle 's video as proof, no editing magic there. Last edited by Freedom; 03-24-2016 at 09:21 AM. |

IMO if you give @Fish Eagle a SC 86 and Gugu Zulu one on the same day to do laps, @Fish Eagle would be quicker,
As much as Gugu is a professional rally driver etc, @Fish Eagle has much much much more hours in experience with the driving dynamics of the Toyota 86 than a few hours which Gugu has. (Just my opinion), I sent Gugu a message on Fbk to confirm if his laps are from Stand still or flying, Also, as much as I am a Gugu Zulu fan, he isn't SA's best driver around Zwartkops, when they had a shoot out with the Type R between Gugu and Marius, Marius was a quicker driver... |

When I watched the video for the first time I was amazed that it came in at 1:16. It is obviously heavily edited given the number of camera angles. I'm sure they don't have that many cameras! And it can't have been a standing start. Parts of it, like through turn 4 just don't look 1:16 pace to me.
So until I see a full dash cam lap I choose to be very sceptical of that time. Feel free to prove me wrong P.S. Where did he crash? |

Michelin Cup round 2, Zwartkops on 29 Feb 2016.
On the day, I couldn't stay for the prizegiving, so I only got my trophy and prize for winning class T2 on Sunday. That helped to put a smile back on my face after performing dismally at Vereeniging.

Sunday at Vereeniging was my 30th track day!!
All these track days were after my car was supercharged by RGMotorsport in Nov 2013 at about 25000kms. The only problem I've ever had was a cracked header which cost about R1500 to get it welded up by a pro. That was about 5 track days ago, so I guess it's OK for now My car's now at 77000kms and still going strong!! I got my stats up to date at last... Total laps done on racetracks - 999 Total kms done on racetracks - 2794 I thought it was more than that, but the numbers are the facts I guess... Which means that 5.4% of the mileage I've done in my car since it was supercharged has been on racetracks Broken down by track : - Midvaal Raceway - 480 laps @ 2.5 kms = 1200 kms - Zwartkops Raceway - 213 laps @ 2.4 kms = 511 kms - Red Star Raceway - 239 laps @ 4.2 kms = 1004 kms - Roy Hesketh - 13 laps @ 2.3 kms = 30 kms - The Rock Raceway - 39 laps @ 0.82 kms = 32 kms - Vereeniging Kart Club - 15 laps @ 1.1 kms = 17 kms I'll drink to that!! With the abuse I give her, she should have sued for a divorce long ago. But some females like being treated rough - she must be one of those So what next??? Basically just more of the same... I don't want more power - I've got enough with 168wkw She needs a bit more camber up front - going to happen soon. Target -2.5° I want to find tyres that are a better road/track combo so that I can avoid having to change wheels, even it that means going a bit slower. I'm getting too old for changing wheels. I'd like to get more sponsorship, especially for tyres and brakes where most of my costs lie. A big shout out to my existing sponsors who have substantially lightened the financial load and made playing on racetracks possible. I am sincerely grateful THANK YOU!! Oh, and most of all, I want to continue trying to upgrade the squidgy organic part behind the steering wheel. I've learnt that the biggest performance gains come from that. Finally, I'm thrilled that I can still be playing like this and having so much fun at my age (62). And I'd never ever been onto a racetrack before 2014

I enjoy watching your driving style, If I could describe it, it would be... smooth, calculated and precision driving, (I managed to watch you from the stands on Sunday) and it did not look like harsh/hardcore/eventful driving like a Carl/Anton/Chett, I also noticed Wayne Hay (Driving the crazy power STI who did 55 sec laps on his warm up), similar power to the above gents, but his driving was so different, and exhibited the same composure and smoothness as yours. And the same was witnessed when Marco in the 328i. I have no doubt that if you had your Potenza RE011's you would be in the 58's/59's easily! I personally hope to get to that skill level one day. Wishing you pure motoring happiness in your 86 Sir! What do you intend on doing to get more negative camber at the front? (Coilovers ? just trying to figure out what one could do while keeping suspension relatively stock) I use Toyo R888's, I chose them because they were affordable Approx R1200 each for 16inch, and they are legal road tyres. I recently started driving to work with them after a track event, until I find the time and energy to change back to road tyres. The only unpleasant part is that they make allot of noise on the road. But luckily my exhaust notes are louder If you don't have a problem with road noise, you should consider it, Maybe drive around in my car the next time we meet to see how they handle. |
