I've been eyeing the first year GR86, especially since I could get a nice employee discount and low interest rate, but I'm hopeful they will release limited/special editions in the future. Of course if the car is a flop the first year (at least in sales) there might not be a special edition. But that's a risk I'm going to take. I'm not too concerned with "first year" issues though. As most people in this thread have mentioned, its not an entirely new vehicle. Most things are recycled from the previous gen and I think if you bought a first year car you'd be fine.

That could be the case on the training, and it was required as part of the recall that the dealership have a tech trained specifically on the work.

Toyota might sell more cars, but they also have more dealerships. The mechanic to car ration is probably very similar. I mean if I was going to trust anyone over anyone else, it would be engineers who work solely on boxer engines. FA EJ, Turbo, NA, I don't care - any boxer engine is far more different compared to an inline, than say the difference between boxers engines, even those with design changes. |

I'll be skipping the '22 and getting the '23 because I'd like to see if there are any problems within a year. And also the number 23 is something close to my heart. lol

Keep in mind it's not a completely new car. My 2013 didn't really have any issues and that was at the start. However, given how Toyota added more power with the Supra in the second year, you may get lucky and get something that is deemed a necessity that we miss out on. For me, I threw down for the BRZ and I'm already second-guessing if I want to throw down on the GR86. I like the look more of the GR86.

I don’t imagine there would be any big difference atleast power train wise. They can’t change displacement or make the compression ratio higher. So I don’t see the power changing at all. |
