BentAnat, unfortunately your location is an issue.

I waited a week for mine. I called about 10 dealers around Jhb. They also mentioned other unallocated cars either available immediately or within the month.

@tm86 - yeah... I am aware of that... It just makes no sense to me that South African dealerships are chasing after buyer when there's guys waiting for months on end just across the border (and seemingly inside SA as well). Seems to me that some dealerships are overbudgeting for their demand when others are struggling to fill a SINGLE order.

I know my dealership is calling around as well and asking for incoming 86's in the spec that are unallocated, so that they can get one for me. All the dealerships in SA so far are giving them the finger.

it's the way the dealerships are organized as independent and competing franchises.
Personally i don't think it's in Toyota's and the consumer's best interest but that's the way it is. If you've been following the problems Tesla has in the US trying to sell their cars directly to the public, you realise things here could be even worse

The point you make is indeed very valid.

86 was the ideal car, everyday entertaining ride.... To be honest, I would be settling for a GTi, but I am not prepared to wait so long.. Being a TSA employee, my order is pushed to the bottom of the list, customers orders are prioritized.

Don't give up, it all depends who you speak to, I waited 3 months for mine and nothing happened, then I spoke to Jason from barloworld tygervalley and a week later(today) he got me the colour and spec I wanted as well as with the best service. He has a standard red spec available currently.

Could this have anything to do with an employee discount?

Nothing to do with a discount, its because of the demand...

I'm genuinely surprised that some dealers are able to link buyers up so quickly. I had a high spec model on order since last September. Eventually cancelled in Feb this year as I had no feedback on where in the process it was. According to the system, it was not scheduled for build. Of course no one could explain that cryptic message either. So someone then got the benefit of my cancellation I still want one though. Just not patient enough it seems. But this time I want the auto. So, called a few dealers in Gauteng today. 8 weeks to 4 months is the response. Wish I had the luck of some of the forumites maybe next year.
