I know it's a chunk of cash but the Varex has a remote control and you don't have to worry about a manual valve being fully closed and creating excessive back pressure. Hopefully, your friend has the valve stop set so the valve is only partially closed but it is still restricting gas flow because it has nowhere else to go but through whatever small opening is left.

Recieved my cat back today. Looks real nice in the box after a quick examination. I took a neomydium magnet to a short section and there is zero magnetic attraction to the tubing, but ther is strong attraction to the flanges and the hangers. I will check the rest when installing tomorrow.

I believe that means that the tubing is Stainless, but the flanges and hangers are not. Not surprised though, the flanges and hangers on my stock pipes were already rusting away but the tubing was not.

J2 Engineering Quad Tip Exhaust Install/Uninstall

So three days ago I recieved the J2 Engineering Quad Tipped Exhaust. Two days ago I installed the exhaust. Today I removed it and put the stock exhaust back on. I will be selling the J2 Quad locally and will put an ad on the classified soon.

So here is the scoop. It is a good exhaust. I looks great and the magnet confirms that the tubing is actually stainless steel, but it is just too damn loud for me. I like a deep exhaust and this is definitely that. It sounds amazing when it starts up and fast idles. The quad tips really break up the sound and give it a nice grumble. It sounds fantastic when you open this thing up. It is actually pretty mellow and shows no droning at 2.8k RPM and above. Below 2.8 it gradually gets deeper with its deepest tone around 1.5k. If I was younger and still single I would probably keep this exhaust. However, I am not, my wife hates it, and for a daily driver it is just too much for me. I do recommend using some Dynamat Extreme or something like it behind the heat sheild facing the car body as the exhaust presses against it and causes a rattle without it.

I snapped off a few photo's of the exhaust while it was still on the car up on the lift and will attach them here. If anyone is looking for a great deal send me a PM or watch the Members classifieds. FYI, I will be including all the original gaskets and hardware along with 3 square feet of Dynamat Extreme that you will need for the heat sheild as this exhaust does press against the heat sheild. That and the loud sound was the only criticism I could find.

It replaces the second cat with a straight pipe. First one is in the stock header.
