As said above, if you are asking that question, how many engines have you rebuilt? How many high performance engines have you helped build?
Again, it sounds like you have not spent much time helping in a speed shop.
Get to know people working on these built engines to do the job or have some one with experience guide you.
Watching you tube is not going to work out well.

Just keep the boost low on the stock motor. A motor with stronger rods will just be breaking transmissions anyway.

Question Turboing an Automatic

Hello. Does anyone know how much WHP/Torque that the automatic transmission can handle? Also, is there any way to make that number go up by building up the internals, cooling, or swapping? Im looking to get 350 WHP and im worried about the transmission dying on me. I know i can get forged internals on the engine but im not sure about the transmission. Any help would be amazing.

From what I've seen, 350-400 is really where you'll start to have issues. There are some upgrades available for the automatic transmission that seem to work pretty well.

https://www.sspperformance.com has a lot of BRZ stuff

Auto trans can handle a lot. Its rated for 220ft lbs. although as with most things what is is rated for and what it can actually handle (usually a lot more) are two different things. A valve body should make it easily handle 240ft lbs and a trans cooler will greatly help reliability/longevity. Then SSP clutch packs on top and 350-400ft lbs should be pretty safe.

240ft lbs at 7k rpm is about 320whp.
Things are rated for torque not hp.

Buying and installing one of these should help with handling more torque, correct?

Yup, i had the stage 2.
The stock auto trans has built in slip when changing gears. This is great for having a smooth transition between gears. It is horrible however for shifting quickly, and causes wearing of the clutch packs faster especially with high HP. It will reduce shifting by about .1 seconds and the quicker instant clutch bite will prevent excessive slip wear. I’d say it raises the torque rating of the trans by a good 20ft lbs.

Also get a trans cooler.

Ive found this transmission cooler (First link) and it seems to be a universal one. Ive seen people use it on these forums, so ill give it a try. Im also gonna get a SSP Stage 1 Clutch for the A960E (2nd link.) Is this all that i would need (Plus the stage 2 valvebody upgrade) to maintain high torque transmission wise?

Yes that clutch pack, with the stage 2 valve body, and the oil cooler should handle as much if not more power than a build block can safely handle.

also for the oil cooler, you have stark performance trans cooler if you want a premade kit for the car, i pieced / made my own

you will want a Derale 13011 Fluid Control Thermostat Kit,Silver

i used
Aeroquip FCN0615 AQP Black -06AN Socketless Hose - 15 Feet
Autobahn88 Universal Oil/Automatic Transmission Fluid ATF Cooler, 6 Rows, Compact Core Size 10x3.4x1.4" (260x85x35mm), 6AN Adapters, Black
EVIL ENERGY 6AN 90 Degree Push Lock Hose Fitting End Black
Sold by: EVIL ENERGY
Derale 13011 Fluid Control Thermostat Kit
with some brackets i got from home depot.

my oil cooler setup was the same, but i used a larger cooler with 10an fittings and 10AN hose.

i also had intake and exhaust fans on both my cooler hooked up to an off/on relay switch. but i intentionally limited the airflow so my temps would warm up super fast, then id switch the fan on and temps would be rock solid.

but so many setups and options based on your usage and needs.

Post All supporting mods for automatic turbo FR-S

Hello. Im just about to buy all the parts needed to get my turbo kit and reach my desired goal of ~350 WHP. Just so i can be sure, what are all of the supporting mods that i need to make sure that the turbo can run fine and the engine/transmission wont die on me? Ive got an automatic. Wide tires, transmission coolers, fuel injectors, built engines, built transmission, list anything that would help me with this power. Thank you.

I dynoed between 340-350rw on my e-force sc auto then made some exhaust mods and guessing around 360rw now. Torque is just over 250ftlbs. So far so good on the auto with only a temperature controlled trans cooler I pieced together. I used a Setrab 6-13 with an Improved Racing thermostat and some home made brackets and rivnuts. The car sees near bi-monthly uphill trips to the local and not so local mountains. Still shifts like it did naturally aspirated but since the revs climb much faster now in the lower gears, I do need to account for shift delay by shifting early to avoid hitting cutoff. Only time will tell how long this set up lasts, but autos are cheap and easily replaceable. I'll be doing some mods to the valvebody over the next few days cause I like to mess with stuff that aint broke .
