There are those who can only drive automatic due to certain conditions. A renowned shop owner on this forum is one of them. I never understood manual elitism. I drove an auto WRX that had better gearing, held more power, didnt lose boost between shifts, and launched harder stock than the 5MT WRX.

I don't care how popular it is, how many other people own them, or what other people think. I bought this car because it's a fantastic car for an incredible price.

The more people buy it, the better for you.... More options out there for less of the cost. True, when I first got the car I would be stopped about 5 times daily being asked what car is it and stuff, while now its only once a week.

Never crossed my mind that "Oh no, it might be alot of people owning this car eventually" - this car screamed for me to buy it because, well, it was everything I wanted in a car for a damn fair price.
When I see another one, I try to give them a shaka/wave and carry on - happy others can enjoy the car like I do. I'm not worried about it being "everywhere" but as others noted, the more popular it gets, the better aftermarket support we see and that matters to me. Car parts are pricey >_< Enjoy the car, damn the numbers

I don't really mind that there are more around. Only thing that bothers me a little, is that some of the newer owners seem to think that their FRS/BRZ is faster than mine. have been cut off a couple of times by some with paper plates still on them lol

In the big picture, these cars are still "rare". I mean, it's not like it's a civic or a camry. If you're driving and see another FRS or BRZ, just wave. Chances are he/she is into cars just like we are and they probably noticed you too. If you get the chance, stop and meet them and introduce them to this community. Hopefully there aren't too many arrogant members on here who share the OP's viewpoint.

True. I think it's a little deceiving because we own these cars...and that's why we notice them on the road. Same thing happened when I bought a Toyota X-Runner. I had never noticed them before. Then I bought one and immediately started spotting them around town. Same thing when I bought my 300C SRT8...never really noticed them or payed them any attention until I bought one...

The way I see it, having the 86 come in auto and manual is a fantastic choice, as people have said, stop and starting in traffic is easy and far more efficient in an auto, and from what i've read the auto gearbox is only very slightly behind in a 0-60 time, then again a manual preforming to its full potential always depends on the driver.
I don't get this auto bashing, I drive manuals and autos all day at work, I can drive both well, and I must say the thought of having the cruisy auto mode for efficiency and day to day is great, but if I want fun, and to feel more connected, I'll simply engage sports-auto mode, and have some fun smashing out some paddle-shifting. In a auto that was designed as a 6-speed variation of the IS-F gearbox, I don't find it a degrading experience in the least, with some of the smartest technology seen in a low-cost sports car in regards to said "autobox". But back to OPs-topic, It's a shame for you guys in the states, they seemed to have given you guys so many more cars then they shipped to the rest of the world, as i've said before, here in aus we face a 6 month waiting list even now, some of us got lucky and were offered cars early, some are still waiting 8 months on. In my town of 29,000 or more now, there is 1 other 86 that I know of, and i've seen in once in a month, so I'm looking forward to it still being a bit of a rarity around these parts
