The lower the weight gets, the more cash will flow into Toyota's dealerships.

Imagine how petrolheads around the world will wellcome the FT with a weight around 2600 lbs.

Now imagine the same at 2400.

I don't even want to speak about the frenzines if it comes out at 2200 lbs.

Credit crunch crisis...

Yeah, toyota's gonna be working REAL hard to keep the weight down on this, even with safety regulations... it probably won't weigh as much as the s2k.
Wasn't one of the marketing points of the concept its low weight?

All the rumors were the concept was 1000kg which bodes well for the production vehicle if the target weight is anything within 200kg of that.

So apparently 1000kg cars are still possible: Audi just released it's new A1, which clocks in at 2304lb, or 1045kg. It's slightly shorter and narrower than the FT, but taller, it still seats 4 and meets all the safety reqs. The FT will be a little bigger, with a larger engine (2.0 instead of 1.2) and the necessary RWD bits, but I'm still hopeful for the 24-2500lb range.

it's funny you mentioned that. I was thinking about this the other day and remember driving the GTS and found the power lacking. The torque seemed incredibly weak for a sporty car. It had good power, only if you got the rpms up to 6800 or higher (VVTi). I did not get the car because of this. I want it to have low end torque. Revving a car this high draws unwanted attention from the po-po. They are saying this should be a torquey engine. I am really hoping this won't be another celica GTS. I was NOT impressed and waited for the celica GTS to come out, test drove it the day it arrived on the dealers lot, even had the 6spd. Almost cried after driving it, I was so underwhelmed.

Ruh-oh Don't let the 86 purists hear you saying that. But I agree

I voted a realistic sub-2,800lbs, and Im really not afraid of the boxer engine lacking low end grunt, its certainly good for that.
