I briefly had a fisheye (m43 mZuiko 8mm f1.8 Pro, so same equivalent FL). Thought the lens was really cool, but just honestly couldn't figure out how to really make best use of the effect. Granted, it's taken me a few years to come to terms with shooting ultra-wide (14mm equivalent fully rectilinear), and anything that is honestly wider than say 20mm gets challenging, but fisheye just wasn't something I was ready for. I ultimately returned it within the Amazon return window, but would consider trying it again some day.

If you've got fisheye experience, or love the look and are willing to put the time in the understand how it changes composition, it's a great lens. Reviews really well. At $800 new it's a bit steep for me being such a specialty lens, but it isn't too unaffordable. The Olympus lens I had was more expensive, but it did have a 1 stop advantage, and a crazy close focusing distance of I think 2 cm (which with a fisheye and that aperture made for some interesting right up close distorted shots with actual bokeh).

Will post some of my fisheye shots when I get home.

its a nikkor lens but w/ the 1.5 on the DX body I would say some where around the 16mm. I search craigslist on the daily to pass the time and a fish eye appeared on there for 350. To be honest, the price is the only thing that spiked my interest. There is a loaner shop near where I live and I had borrowed it for a few hours and I found myself not liking the lens as much as I thought it would. I found myself switching back to my wide angle lens for most of the day I had the fish eye.

Congratulations! Good choice. That's a solid workhorse camera to get started on. What lens did you get with it?

Now get out there and get shooting! 😀

$350 would be a good price, especially if it's in good condition. That said, if you didn't get on with the lens, it's ultimately just going to collect dust and not be worth it at any price above free. I can pre-visualize a wide angle composition, but still can't figure how/when to use fisheye.

These are just a few I was able to grab and process when I could. Still offloading today's photos.

Hey everyone!

Looking for a Nikon 50mm F1.8G for my Nikon D3100. I figured I might have more luck asking in this thread as well as in the WTB classifieds.

Thanks

Dan

Sorry we only use real cameras here.

I keed. Looks like there's a bunch of sub $200 ones available on ebay. Might be your best bet.

Why not go with the 35mm version that's a DX camera right?

I'm sure you could find a brand new one.

I second this. The 1.4x Crop will basically make it a 50mm. I've had good luck w/ buying off craigslist. I think I bought mine for 50 bucks if I remember correctly.

I didn't realise just how much I needed a wide angle lens. There had been a few times in the past when I thought yeah, a little wider here would have been good but I just shrugged my shoulders and moved on. How that has changed. It is not so much a case of getting a perspective impact (although the sculpture below is an exception) but a case of being able to get everything in the pic when it is not possible to step back any further.

My only issue is trying to juggle two cameras at once. I still haven't worked out a answer to my satisfaction. Ah well. It is hardly a big problem.

Looking forward to do more with cameras next year, both video/photo. Got into them, then got busy and this thread has been great to follow.
