Just spent a few mins driving more.
It does happen in neutral and when stopped when I rev to about 2500-3000rpm. In lower gears it happens more between 2000-3000. Above 3k I don't notice it. Usually I shift around that range... could it be transmission related? Car sounds fine if just idling and it's pulling and stuff fine while accelerating.

Suddenly this afternoon I became a sewing machine restorer. My wife couldn't not get this from an elderly lady who put this out front for free. It didn't spin.
5 minutes with 5 in 1 oil and got it going. 1942. My wife is super exited. Hope I can time it. |

Should clean out all the old oil before the varnish sets up again. Might as well if you're already re-timing it.

I have no idea how to re-time it. Right now I have the motor out and soaking the rubber wheel that turns the main shaft. Interesting machine. |

Yeah. Many people used 3-in-1 oil to lube them. It becomes like glue when it varnishes. Real sewing machine oil is pure mineral oil. No plant-based stuff. wd40 thins the 3-in-1 varnish but eventually evaporates. edit... I missed the part where you said you cleaned and lubed a bunch of times. It sounds like you cleaned it all out.

There's been a couple machines like that at goodwill lately. But all the rubber is either missing or so cracked and dry rotted and about to go missing.
I've still got a snow blower I need to fix up. Needs new fuel lines and a carb, then it's a housewarming gift to a friend.

It almost sounds like a defective pulley. Could be a pump too. |

Singer vintage sewing machine oil is off-brand?
My wife now has 3 sewing machines. She also got my mom's Singer 401. |

The cattle panel worked great. We did tomatoes on it. I'm going to get a couple more next season for beans and peas.

I ended up with a 900lb motorcycle in my shop for repair. Been sitting for like 8-9 years. Transmission howl. Hopefully just a clutch but I heard 4 gear is weak in these.
