catharsys, was suggesting the BRZ has econobox-like performance. Which is .

How stuck up must you be to call the BRZ/WRX "shitboxes?"

Don't get carried away, tranz. That's not what I was talking about.

The manual MPG is good, but when I saw the auto numbers I was like "why such a big difference?" It's not unusual for the auto to have a taller top gear over the manual but 4 MPG difference on the highway!? Even the Ford Focus with their fancy DCT only gets 2 MPG over the old 5spd manual. The RX-8 got the same EPA score even though the manual engine made less torque(and revved higher but they didn't test that).

It's as if they tested it with a different engine or "cheated" with the auto.

Not sure how the gearing is for the Ford Focus, but for the BRZ the MT 6th gear is the same as the AT 5th gear. Seems that will account for most of the difference. Also the fact that AT nowadays are much more efficient than in the past.

I think Japanese's fun to drive is diff than US's fun to drive. When 90% of car out there are faster than u and u have to slow down to change lane what fun is that? This isnt Japan where most of the cars are slow fuel saving cars.

If 90% of the cars on the highway are faster than you, you need to push the gas pedal more.

And please don't slow down to change lanes, it really messes with the flow of traffic and creates an unsafe situation for the drivers around you.

HAHA, ppl do that alot around here. I also hate the idiots that try to speed onto the freeway from the freeway-onramp, when they should instead yield to oncoming freeway traffic. Man, lots of freeway in that sentence

I hate entering freeway ramps where it also includes exiting, kinda like looking like this "IC"

It could be the 7450 rev limit + kinda short gears, on the EPA test they probably rev it pretty high on low throttle compared to most cars while the auto will be like "wtf yo, why you going so slow?" and get into 4th or 5th or something by the time the manual is done chugging along in 1st gear wasting fuel.

S2000 has the most horrendous city economy rating ever despite having a small engine and relatively light curb weight BRZ doesn't rev nearly as high and doesn't have quite the same ludicrous short gearing, but it's got more revs than just about any other 2L car out there right now.

The Focus is a bad example, I checked, and apparently the top gear in the DCT is only 14% taller than the 5spd. The auto in the twins is 20% taller than the manual.

...
Cereal, you cheesehead. If they did that it would get in the teens for MPG. The EPA cycle is incredibly tame, remember the average speed for the whole test is around 35mph.

They've eluded to it numerous times already. In one of the BRZ "reviews" their engineers went on to mention "280hp" and "turbo".

Remember, Toyota wanted this car to get it's performance image back instead of being the mercury/buick of Japanese cars. They've created a sporty affordable car, but even last year in a few interviews they mentioned that people were really disappointed with the power, that it was a NA 2.0L, especially after they failed to meet their price and weight goals, and that "hurt a bit".

FI is coming for the 86, either Turbo/SC, and though it maybe Subaru doing it first, it's happening. The performance per dollar is too low right now and they need to kick it up, as well as capture the majority track enthusiasts like they wanted to originally. Not just the "feather weight" guys.

And once the FI model is unveiled, some of the original marketing parroting will die off at places like here, then more will as time goes on, and mostly will be gone when they drive one or see the tests. Others will secretly covet it, and be too prideful to admit. Very-very few will be on the OG tag line, and those will be the real feather weight guys that dumped tons of money into the suspension.

Look at the just-released sales numbers from Japan (4X initial estimates), and the pre-order levels elsewhere as well. They have already announced upping production to 100k units this model year to meet demand.
