Any Mid-Year 2017 86 Special Edition?
So for the last few years as the Scion FR-S, the car would get a mid-year special edition that would add in a lot of the things the FR-S was normally missing compared to the BRZ, I've searched high and low but haven't found any info on something like that continuing on with the 86 as Toyota.
I ask because I'm considering getting a twin soon, and while I like the Toyota 86 a lot, some of the things in the BRZ are undeniably desirable, like the 4" screen in the dash, dual auto climate and such, do you guys think there will be another car that comes out mid-model year like the 10 Series, Monogram, Release Series 1/2? Has there been any news on something like that which I've somehow skipped over? Edit: So there's a Toyota 86 special edition now, called the 860. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/the...o-added-power/ Last edited by Borchert97; 03-14-2017 at 12:30 AM. I believe Toyota has something in the works, like a Release Series 3.0 (despite Scion's demise).
I'm wondering if it'll be a performance package like on the BRZ. |

If not in a rush we should hear if they are going to do another trim level (as they have hinted at but never said outright) by late spring.

There has been zero word about any special edition even in the worst of the clickbaits. Did I miss something someplace?

Doubt it because I've been trying to answer this question for days, I much do prefer the look of the 86 (obviously the unpopular opinion from what I've seen around these forums haha), so I'd like to get an 86 but with some of the tech, the likes of which are standard on BRZ's or BRZ Limited's.

Merely a thought, hence why I said "I believe." Even though they are the same car, I can't imagine Toyota not having a special edition when Subaru already brought one out and also since Scion's released a special edition of the FR-S up until their demise and subsequent remerger.

I can imagine it completely. As I have said before even with all my "the automakers have a plan" preaching I am still convinced that the death of Scion was sudden and unplanned. It had all the earmarks of somebody on high saying "enough end it now". I also think that any plans of a Release went with it for 2016. Instead of a release I think that we will see the hinted at different trim levels for the 18s. Then mid year 18 we will see a Special Edition (no more Releases that was a Scion term). If they were going to do a Release/Special for the 17 MY I think they would have announced it by now to get some hype for a spring delivery. That is what they have always done in the past. We are pushing the deadline for such an announcement since it is only a couple of months until they will be changing production over to the 18s. Toyota does not care if Subaru has a Special out since they really are not trying to compete with them.

Ok, I'm dumbfounded here. Why do we want dual A/C? Does a divider come up inside the car and keep the temperatures separate? Can't this all be accomplished by opening and closing vents on each side?

I just want the heated seats. Don't really need the climate control, but it makes the interior look less cheap.

It's not just dual climate control, it's dual AUTO climate control, which means you just pick a temp you want it to be and it'll control fan speed and interior temp and all that kinda stuff to keep your temperature the same, although I just want the screen the BRZ Limited gets more than anything, the entire dash of that car just looks so much nicer, I'll still probably get an 86 though, I'm a loyal Toyota nut, want a lot of the TRD accessories, and think it looks nicer.
