VIS AMS Hood with Rain Guards.. Any Issues or have pictures ?

hey guys just wondering what the downsides are to having the VIS AMS style CF hood ? im pretty sure they have rain guards and i will be installing the rain guards on this hood if i am to get it. im purely going for asthetics and not performance with this hood. i have a CAI and HIDs , would i have anything to worry about i live in ny where it snows and rains so i need to make sure my car will be safe with this hood before installing. if you have this hood please reply

It's an awesome hood for sure. My favorite part of this hood is its diversity. The fact it is more geared toward function while at the same time taking into account the ability to protect your assets when needed is good looking out on VIS designs part. Secondly, the fact it has a legit substructure is beneficial in providing integrity under high speed pressure build up. Meaning the flexing that occurs in other carbon hoods is minimized on this one. The quality is among the best in the industry. Is it worth it? Yes imo however, at your stage in a car build its sorta expensive for just an esthetics mod. This comes down to you though so if you're in love with it don't hesitate to buy it.

wow thats some great facts and details about this hood... so your saying that with the rain guards i should be fine ? and its a graduation gift =)

Yes. Since it is vented you will see more dust and such in the engine compartment and water can get in it. They are just as stated "guards" not impermeable. They are pretty well done though so you will be fine. If you want I can get you some good shots of the guards installed so you can see how they work.

that would be awesome ! yeah im sure some water will get in but as long as the water wont cause damage to the engine bay or HIDs and electrical system im cool with that

if you can get the gap of the vent and then to the opening it has to the engine bay, i want to see just how much of a gap there is for the rain to enter... also how they connect and install via clips or something else would be great

They are screwed on and they are pans that cover the left and right sides. So the pans catch anything larger that may get in there. The pictures will speak volumes. I just have to get off work to get em to you guys.

I have the AMS trunk also and thus far I am a fan too.

Here are a couple pics of the guards:

The angles I took are purposely odd because I wanted to get across that the vents are still fully functional when installed, albeit not to 100% capacity in comparison to the guards being removed.

The important thing to notice is that there are vents on the guards just as there are on the hood but they are offset from the exterior vents. This allows the hood to still function but there is not direct exposure to the elements.

Removal is as simple as taking out the hardware holding the guards/pans to the underside of the hood.
