See some of you guys are failing to see the point of this car. It was made to be very affordable so it can reach a large demographic with a wide range of financial ability. Heck, even 16 year-olds own these cars!

What good does it do Toyobaru to offer a turbo version? Absolutely NOTHING! In fact, I think they'd barely break even if they ventured that direction. The fact is, they don't have to offer a turbo version. Just take a look at the sales. They're obviously doing something right and the numbers show.

Let's just say that a turbo version were to emerge, insurance would be more than what the general demographic can afford. On top, the car would probably start at around $35k for the turbo variant which throws any sort of pricing competitivness out the window. Even still, that's not what this car is about.

Toyobaru gave us a spectacular base car and left the door wide open. It's up on OUR end to do whatever we see fit to make our cars our own. That's where the aftermarket comes in!

Do you guys even realize how expensive it is to develope a new motor? Saying a 2.5L would be cheap. You guys are smoking crack! The man hours of designing and redesigning, testing, engineering... I don't see the dream of a 2.5L happening either. Economy would take a hit too and that goes against what the 86 is about.

For the refresh, they better be moving to a 5x114.3 bolt pattern. I see little things like that happening. Not entirely new powertrains. Maybe after this car has had like a 5 year run, but certainly not after 2 years!

Just remember the old ae86. Light, rwd, underpowered, flood gates of potential, and affordable. The same carries to the new 86. Anything otherwise is not what this car was intended to be.

Now I can see TRD and Sti offering very limited editions that are turbo'd. But never Toyota and Subaru straight off the factory floor.

5x114 wheel nolt pattern?... who cares, sure there are more selections I get that. But slowly seems the makers of wheels are catching on, we're getting more options all time.

Friendly bet for F all happens, pretty confident. Afterall the rumor mill for a new Supra went for years. Hell I was even told from a Toyota rep at a HUGE car show it was happening. All to find out Toyotas venture with BMW was just for another supercar in the 300 grand mark and NO Supra is abound anytime near. SO ya that chapped my ass I don't believe anything a dealer, a rep, a salesman says sorry. I will put more $ into my little guy and not care if this becomes a reality as you'll always be waiting for next best thing. BEST imo to enjoy what you have NOW and no regrets, life's too short. like hmong said this car is a canvas paint it how you wish. ONE thing I love about this car is how little it takes to have it different at a car meet with 50 of them, seriously how many cars are like that? Not many... I love the way this car looks, even if it came with a 2.5 or turbo and they changed the look no way I'd change, bodywise the lines and the look IMO are one of the best looking cars there is period. The refresh I am certain will have some goods, motor I doubt maybe I'll be wrong but again I don't care. Minute the body changes etc I have zero interest.

Nope. I am just another guy who likes cars....A lot.

I haven't really been focusing on the monogram series or 10 series because I have been busy working on my car and out at the track for Scion events. But any time I hear more power...I am there.

I would like them making it Turbo Charged, little car like the Frs and how bad ass it looks, all it needs is a Turbo coming standard, already in it. I honestly would pay a lil extra for it too. Why not? If your a car guy, you get it. I hear some people saying I would rather spend my 30-35k on something else, like what? Something luxury maybe. The Frs/Brz look amazing and drive better then most cars all it needs is a Turbo. You could do so much things to it too. Turbo Charger is the way to go.

Sadly if a turbo model comes out I'll be forced to sell. I love modifying my na FRS, but it would be sort of pointless to spend money on if I could just trade it in for a FI factory model. Would put the stock wheels and springs back on though.

screw the updated fr-s/brz. I'm over all of the Subaru bs taking the engine mainstream. I went out on a limb buying a Subaru engine as I've always been a Toyota person.

I'm content saving up for Supra successor.

Be careful on that one too, odds are it'll be a BMW collaboration...

In relation to the OP I do not believe there will be a change to the powertrain of the 86, shame I can't vote as such.

They discussed and showed what that collaboration was and sadly it wasn't a new Supra, rather a 300 K supercar. No Supra anytime soon if ever, very dissapointed!

Not sure about everyone else...thinking I might be alone on this one, but I actually prefer my Toyobaru with the 2.0L n/a motor. Nothing against an increase in power, I just happen to enjoy my FA20 for what it can do currently.

Because, currently, they don't offer anything better

So what's that 2.0l turbo four with lower center of gravity that they talked about for the replacement for the RX series? Speculate, speculate!
