Taped Front License Plate
So, I didn't want to drill holes for the front plate, and I'm not a huge fan of the offset mounted plates, and I didn't want to use magnets, as magical as they are, so I did something else. I used 3M VHB tape and taped it on.
I first trimmed about 1/4" from each edge of the plate off, just enough to remove the ribbed edges of the plate. This both slightly decrease the size, but also to give me a nice flat surface to tape to. Disclaimer: this may not be legal... I then cleaned everything and stuck it on. After doing so, I gently massaged the plate so it would follow the contours of the bumper. More disclaimer: this also may not be legal... My thought process is: 1) it shows just as much as most plates w/ frames on them do. 2) it doesn't interfere with the engineered aerodynamics of the vehicle as much as a giant flat rectangle does. 3) It meets, for the most part, the legal requirements. I'll keep you up to date on how true number 3 turns out to be What do you think? |

I don't like it. It looks like you bumped your car one too many times and pressed the license plate in.
It would look better if you were able to angle it downwards with half of it covering the grill and the top half covering the plastic bumper piece. |

Yes, IL requires front plates.
I don't like it. I agree with the comment that it looks like you bumped something too many times.

Can't really tell how good it looks with those giant blobs you put over it to hide your plate #, plus the photo quality. But as far as constructive criticism goes, maybe some thin rubber around the edges of it would hide the imperfections from cutting it and make it look a bit more clean and like you intended for it to be bent that way (instead of looking like you've been bumping into shit). Good luck, let us know if you get a ticket haha

I like how you ask for our opinion, "So what do you guys think" and then reply with this...but its afterall, it's the interwebz. sarcasm?
But I do agree with the above poster, that the license plate looks a little off with the bent in edges. Perhaps a frame would help. |

You asked for opinions........... also I hate it. Get a relocation kit or throw it in your front window.

a lot of people here haven't seen the big lebowski apparently. a damn shame.
that being said i'm not too crazy about it either :/. plus if the tape ever fails while driving for some reason, that's gonna be a mess. and if it fails while you're parked you'd likely get a nasty scratch on your front lip.

Tow hook relocator is still the best looking option for people with front plates.
