Off topic, but I think it's hilarious when guys(and sometimes gals) use "p*ssy" or "vagina" in a derogatory way when guys(and sometimes gals) go very far out of their way and jump through a billion hoops to get some. Even funnier because everyone came out of one. Hell, I'd say that a p*ssy is even tougher than an asshole because you can't shoot a baby through an asshole. Just an observation...

Well at least you can tell it is doing something. The one in my wife's RVR has zero distinction between anything and it feels like a direct drive electric motor is powering the car. Accelerate and as soon as it hits 3000 rpm it just stays planted there. It has no distinguishable shifts at all and freaks the crap outta me every time I drive it.

The idea of a CVT is good. The implementation hasn't been so good, especially since they've been programmed for efficiency, not power.

Now, a truly performance-focused CVT that has immediate power curve selection would be good (where you pick where you want the CVT to hold the power to). Especially with small turbos that give out in the midband of rpms. Stick that needle in the sweet spot and hold it!

I agree, but at the same time, we're running out of ways to call people mean things. The PC thing is making insulting difficult. Is wussy just another word for p*ssy so I can't call somebody it? Should I tell somebody to man-up or cowboy-up, or should I tell them to cowgirl-up? Can I tell them to stop bitching about something? Saying, "You need to get stronger. Stop being such a weakling and stop whining," isn't nearly as strong or concise as saying, "Man-up, you p*ssy. Stop bitching."

On the one hand, I appreciate the offensiveness of it all. I have a daughter and don't want her treated as or thinking of herself as a second-class citizen. On the other hand, I want options!

Cage plays the weirdest daddy roles.

The bad part of CVT is the delay. You floor it from idle, wait, and then accelerate. It's like having a car that's always in the wrong gear. The throttle delay on our Forester is maddening.

That's an issue related to how the CVT is programmed to operate. Subaru's CVT basically sucks and acts like a regular old AT, with preprogrammed ratios instead of an actual CVT, like in the Prius.

People say Honda's CVT is one of the best. I haven't gotten to drive one yet, but I've driven on the Corolla's CVT and it wasn't terrible. Just the car itself lacks power.

I think this is actually an inherent limitation of the mechanical CVT. The CVT Nissan Sentra I drove once had very intuitive operation; gas pedal position ~ horsepower. It would rev the engine just as much as needed.

However there's a little bit of lag because the pulleys and chain have to physically move around a bit to change the gear ratio.

What you could do in this case is have the CVT programmed to run the engine faster than necessary and quicken the response, but it can only reduce the lag a little bit.

The Prius eCVT system is actually very good in this regard, but that car has a lot of throttle lag built in. But using electric motors to shunt power around loses efficiency and costs a lot of money in electronics. I'm still a fan of the traditional gearbox.

Why hasnt anyone answered the most obvious question:

WHY IN THE &*(^ did this forum even EXIST in 2010?

And the BEST high performance car would be a Turbine generator with electric motors on each wheel.
Done

Somebody back then had to lead the speculation bandwagon and give the click baits rumours that they still use to this day!

Just the reduction in moving parts alone would put your efficiency and reliability through the roof.

The FT1 forum has been around for at least a year; these things start once the rumors start, not once the car comes out.

I drove a new honda fit with a cvt, unless i was really paying attention i couldn't tell anything was different about the transmission. The car also had no power and i think this contributed to the fact i felt nothing while driving it.
