I don't have a 2017 but I'd like to lay an additional criticism on the new tachometer a e s t h e t i c:

2013:

2017:

So they changed it where it redlines near midnight on the tach, copying porsche I guess, and IMO was unnecessary. To me its more fun pinning the 2013's tach at 12:00 when you're at 6000 rpms on a back road.

I think that goes for any mass market OEM automotive sound system. Even the Lexus Mark Levinson system or the Volvo XC90 in Gothenburg mode are going to pale in comparison to a good headphone setup.

I usually consider my car audio to be pleasant background music for times when I don't want to listen to the intake noise.

The old Pioneer unit could be modified to get rid of the nag screen and allow address input while the car is moving.
Don't know about the current one though - I was under the impression the 2017s no longer had navi?

But to go full Luddite, I'd like to say that it is ludicrous to have touch screen as the primary input in a stiffly-sprung sports car.
Give me physical buttons, or give me death.

Also, per @radroach, it's too bad they made the silver ring around the tachometer a smooth (bland) one, instead of the textured one (with some nice grooves to give it a more interesting look) of the 13s.

Preach.

Trying to change the volume while moving with that MICROSCOPIC volume knob is damn near impossible. I usually end up missing it completely and hitting a touch-screen button by accident, or accidentally turning the volume up/down by way more than I meant to. Doesn't help that I have big hands...and don't get me started on trying to do anything while wearing gloves. They could have at least made the knob stick out a few inches from the head-unit to give you something to grip, but no.

Same goes with the hard buttons on the left side of the unit. They feel cheap and chintzy when pushed, and half the time I have to push them more than once before they respond. Also, once again, I often miss the hard button while driving and hit a touch-screen button by accident, because whatever neanderthal designed this head-unit decided to put the "soft" buttons on the left side of the screen, right next to the "hard" buttons.

The touch-screen itself is also laggy, and half the "soft" buttons on the screen are also irritatingly small and positioned poorly.

Pioneer used to be a name synonymous with quality, but they should be ashamed to have put their name on such a steaming pile of hot garbage.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned OEM Audio Plus yet. It doesn't fix the controls on the head unit but it definitely fixes the sound.

My wife was not thrilled about me spending the money on my O+ system. She said "the stock stereo sounds fine, but if it makes you happy..."

After listening to a few of her favorite songs on my newly-installed O+ system, she wanted one for her 2015 (FRS) and we order her reference system the next morning.

It's that good.

OEM Audio Plus isn't available in Canada (likely why nobody has mentioned it since you are in the Canada sub-forum).

What? My dealer offered it to me.

In related news, the shit you listed is laughable. You're buying a cheap sports car, guess where the R&D money went to. Hint: not the stereo, head unit, sound deadening, or anything that doesn't have to do with the chassis.

OP, I hear you, but for the price of the car, you can't really complain. If you wanted a perfect car, maybe you should have bought Porsche or something.

But, its all these minor problems that make me love my BRZ coz its not perfect...just like me...but its damn good!!!

Maybe they do now? I'm not sure. They didn't in 2012 when I bought mine or for as long as I looked into it. There was an exclusive vendor through BRZ World who was offering it in Canada but it was very expensive.

The Bongiovi audio package was available when I bought my FRS in June 2012, not sure if that's the same thing as the Subaru audio + though. It was listed as both dealer and factory installed options when I bought, so I would assume it's the same for Subaru?

I remember that (I originally had an FRS ordered but cancelled it to get the BRZ). The BRZ didn't have any option or I would have ordered it. I loved the OEM'ness of the OEM Audio plus but was not willing to pay the insane US-Canadian converted price for it being shipped and then installed. Might as well just go to a car audio shop and get something custom.
