No apparently they are leaving them on. I just watched the first episode the other day, also watched the Top Gear: Extra gear. Even so many people pulled a DNS and went in the grass Fun to watch really. It looks like they left the car stock for the most part. Same tires anyway, roll cage and seats for safety is all I can see.

Here is the top gear extra gear where they had some clebs drive to set some times before the first show, start abut 13 min:

IDK, I don't think I could get the tires to make that much noise with the TC on, certainly not a launch like just about everyone did. That shouldn't be much different from the model year change.

Especially that young kid 20 minutes in, he was full off for sure. And that dude looped it at 25 minutes in.

I wouldn't be surprised if some celebs were doing sport/track mode like that woman who went second.

Gotta watch new TG, I knew it would be good.

I'm not sure if they had it on for the top gear extra gear but when I watched the first episode from this season, the guy making comments about the lap mentioned a few times about the traction control coming on at particular points. I agree, my 2016's TC is pretty intrusive. I run sport mode all the time, no way mine would act the way it did during the extra gear episode. I understand though that the programming has been changed for the 2017 and it's less invasive. I haven't driven a 2017 so I can's say from experience.

Well, it's not the actual TV show, a bit like watching 'Talking Dead' and saying "I don't see what the fuss is about"

Isn't the TC on the 2017s supposed to be less obtrusive? There's a point of over-controlling, especially on a damp surface with the stock tires, where no amount of TC will save you.

Argh. What's the point of having a RWD car on track if they're going to leave the nannies on?

IMO they'd be better served having a FWD/AWD car with the nannies off. At least it'd be fun watching the celebrities power understeer their way off the course.

Well, some of the celebrities are knowledgeable drivers who can handle some tail action. Some are not at all. They get folks on the show who barely drive at all sometimes.

They had that for 13 years.

Yeah that's the point though. Would be so much fun watching them get tail-happy on the course.

Did they really turn off TC/VSC? I don't remember any of them spinning the front wheels. Hmm... maybe the cars didn't have enough power then.
