The Borg warner turbos are larger and therefore are a bit more challenging to fit in the engine bay. Their availability has been spotty as well.

Availability, how so? I mean I only hear amazing things about the EFR series, and the silver plated BB's are better than the Garrett BB's. The only thing I did notice though is that they are only water cooled, which I'm not sure if that's still reliable on a daily setup as opposed to a water & oil cooled turbo.

They don't keep a lot in stock at the factory or their warehouse distributors. Every time I've ordered one it's been weeks out. Borg Warner's use oil as well as coolant, not sure where you got that?

Cant really remember where I heard that either lol thats good news either way. Im still hoping someone will have the nutts to thrown down a BW VGT into a custom turbo kit. 14psi spool at 1700 rpms anyone?

Well let me be the bastard child of the group and say I really like my basically STS Prototype kit.

BB, Water cooled Comp Oilless setup and the only thing I have lost so far was my washer tank. I have the smaller Kraftwerks replacement but I have to modify my charge pipe slightly and just have been to lazy to do it.

For my personal setup I was thinking battery relocate and then use that space for a core. Plenty of room to fit a decent size. Barrel style wouldn't be ideal. As long as you have a dual-pass heat exchanger and a decent pump, heat soak shouldn't be an issue.

I will check out that shop you mentioned and see what they've got going on. Maybe I will check them out when I make it up to Road Atlanta.

I didn't see it coming at all.

JDL / FBM / MAP with gtx28 upgrade if you want quality, and response. ~300whp or so.

PTuning is decent quality but more setup for gt30 frame plus. Highway pullers apply within. 400whp and beyond.

Greddy / SPD are journal bearing. Cool if you're still living in 1996. Pass.

AVO if you're the sort of person that would buy bc coilovers, rota wheels. Journal bearing copied turbo. Pass.

fa20club if you're not put off by the millions of bad feedback. Pass.

What exactly is bad about the Greddy kit with journal bearings? I don't understand this comment at all.

I don't think you'll get an answer. He posted this in 2015 and is banned...

And to clarify that post, our SBD500X kits use a dual ball-bearing 58/76mm turbo.

Although I do applaud the use of existing info instead of asking an oft repeated question again this goes to far back to be of much value. When this thread was started and active many of the systems were still in development. Much has changed since then.

Sooo... I just read all of this for nothing? lol. I am really ready to pull the trigger on the Greddy 518. I like what I have read about the company and the system. I am mining for any info that would change my mind and lean me toward something reputable, but that hasn't happen yet.

For me personally I love my SBD400x kit even with the obvious crash beam situation and journal bearing turbo. I have plans to keep the car forever so I didn't mine. With my kit I paid $3900 for the kit plus install and dyno tune by a shop that works religiously on the 86 platform.

3 things I like about it that most kits can't offer combine is.

1. FEEL/Fun! I love the response of boost from 3k-7k. Pretty wide. I couldn't deal with a very high rpm kit that would ultimately cost more.
2. Quality. I know a ton of guys with 0 to barely an issue. And a lot of issues come from improper install and know how. I never had a boost leak because I let a professional do the work.
3. Price. I literally paid what some folks pay for full bolt ons plus flex fuel e85 just to make 40whp. I made 290-300 whp on a Mustang dyno.

That's a great package price!
