Keyless Entry and Start-up issues

Hey guys,

I just picked up my BRZ the past Saturday and I've ran into this problem. When I am on the drivers side trying to get into the car, I get issues with the sensor picking up my key.
Also after getting into the car, the car will be slow to recognize the key so I will have to try a couple of times in order to start the car.
But it seems to work fine when i try to unlock and lock through the passenger side of the door. Any help or suggestions?

Thanks!

Do you have anything else in your pocket? Do you keep the key in the same pocket as your cell phone? I'd try keeping the key in a pocket with nothing else and do some tests. If it still acts up I'd drive by the dealership and see if they can replicate it.

Also, lastly, does it do it with both keys?

+1. Also, maybe you have a bad battery in the key fob. Anyways, bring it back to the dealership unless the problem is a cell phone in your pocket.

This happens with my wife's Prius sometimes. I think sometimes she tries to start the car too fast.

Get in, shut the door, pause, then try to start the car.

thanks for the response guys!

It does happen with both keys. My cellphone is in the other pocket so I don't think that will effect it.

I guess I will have to bring it back to the dealership to have them take a look. It seems like no one else is effected by this.

Good call. You shouldn't be changing the way you start the car just to remove the problem. It should just work.

Never happened to me. I agree with everyone. Bring back to dealership.

Only issue I have had is that if I put it in the same pocket as my phone it won't pick it up. Otherwise it's worked fine. I have noticed in general key fobs don't have as much range when I'm in the city, so maybe that could be part of it? Only thing I can think of is to switch which pocket you put the key in, maybe that will make it closer to the antenna.

At night when I walk up to my locked car at about 5-8 feet away the interior light comes on!

I have the same problem. I live in PHILIPPINES and this problem also bothers me. There is no dealer for BRZ in the area at least not until December this year. I tried replacing the batteries. Tried separating the keys and my phone. tries to shake the keys and tried to do other stupid stuff but the problem still persist. Can anyone provide me some tips or help.

Is your key in your right pocket or left? The key needs to be near the center of the car for the sensor to read it. As a test drop you keys into the cup holder area and see if it starts properly, then see how far you can move the key left in the car before it fails to start.

Same here. I was having a few issues when I first bought the car, but then I realized you need to push the clutch down slightly further to start the car than you do to shift gears.

If you're having issues repeatedly and are SURE its not your fault, take it to the dealer.
