"IF" there was no FT86, which car would you consider purchasing?

Hypothetically, if the FT86 didn't exist and wasn't going to be produced, what other car(s) would you consider purchasing? I was in the market for a 2011+ WRX/STi, Evo X, or Genesis Coupe before I stumbled across this site and started learning a little more about this car.

I think there's already 8 threads for this, but why not :P
-used Cayman S
-used 997 911
-new MS3

Or I'd go grown up and get a TL-S 6MT or a TSX 6MT.

Keep my Golf TDI as a DD and enjoy the quiet luxury with brilliant fuel economy, get a '10+ Miata, wait for the new lighter Miata, or wait for the allegedly upcoming Porsche 914 or Audi R4.

I had the same thought.

It's still mind boggling to me that anyone considering a WRX/STI/Evo might consider an FR-S (or a BR-Z for that matter).

Anyway, there is only one other car that ticks the same boxes for me: Cayman (base...I don't care for the S's price tag).
  • Small.
  • Light(ish).
  • Nimble.
  • RWD.
  • Fun in the twisties.
  • Enough luggage space for a weekend away with Mrs. oneday.

2011 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track
2008 Cayman S

I can't think of any other car worth buying after that.

I'd probably just throw a supercharger and a set of coilovers on my Miata and call it done. For new cars, I'd go MS3.

Hyundai Veloster Turbo
I considered a Gen Coupe but the window line is just too awkward for me
'13 WRX STI - obviously I'd be waiting a while for the info on this

Porsche-Audi-VW may come up with something cool + affordable. It will likely be a turbo flat-4, and turbos are not my thing, but still.

Also: I like the idea of a new, light weight Miata. But, jeez, could they make it look sexy for once. The current version doesn't attract me.

It's too bad Lotus doesn't make a $20k-$25k car.

(I'm limiting my response to new cars.)

Ford Raptor!

Get all the windows tinted and then when you pull up to a brofest and jump out of the truck they'll all just be shocked and awed.

RSX-S...believe it or not. amazing engine, good gas mileage and decent performance for a LOT cheaper than the FR-S. I quite like the interior layout also.

05+ Boxster... it would be the ultimate indulgence but NO practicality what-so-ever. I love this car to death but I dont know if I can keep up with maintenance bills.

thats why I like the FR-S... it's bang in the midle. RSX seems to be the logical economical choice and the porsche is just...porsche

imported celica GT4
'11 WRX or STI
'06/07 STI
Genesis coupe 3.8R

My alternate plan would be to get a Tacoma or FJcruiser and drive that till i can afford the new Exige.
