Buying from a subaru parts dealer

hey, so i tried buying a oem brz spoiler today from a subaru parts dealer and they asked me for my vin number, i told them i had a toyota 86 and they said something which i forgot, i think it was they can't search it up or something since its not subaru. i told the person i already know the colour i wanted and the colour code matched but he kept saying i needed my vin number, can you guys please help? not sure what to do.. Thank you! (first time buying a part from a dealer haha..)

Seems weird that they would need a vin. It's not a special part or anything. Maybe you can buy online? You might be able to save some money actually.

Here's a link so you can purchase online if you go that route.

Go to a dealer that is smart enough to work a parts catalog.

Try ordering it from Subaru online parts:
https://www.subaruonlineparts.com/pr...oducts_id=1476
They don't ask for a VIN, just the color- but the damn thing is $450!

find a different dealer. I get all my stuff from Subaru (filters, new driver window). Sometimes it helps to have a part number alreadyfor them to search it

If you order from the subaru section of parts.com they make you check a box saying you understand you aren't giving them a vin and if something is wrong with your order there are no returns.

Go online and find a VIN. I had to do that when I wanted the illuminated logo from a release series to put it on my FR-S. They won't verify it. At least my Toyota dealership didn't.

I looked through autotrader for mine. Not sure if you have one in Australia or similar. They always have a link for the VIN so you can do a Car Fax. I just wrote it down and went to the dealer.
