Mocal Oil Cooler

I noticed they sell a nice oil cooler duct:
http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/p...l_Oil_Coolers2

I wonder if this would work well on the BRZ using the OEM fog light location to force air into the duct. Not sure if it would fit on the driver's side with the washer fluid. I know HKS uses there's in the location I'm thinking of on the passenger side.

I think it'd get more air to it by just removing the fog light assembly completely and mounting the cooler like Full Blown did on the passenger's side; without a duct. Opening up the fog light areas for any kind of ducting will inevitably create more drag on the front of the car by having more openings. I think the Mocal duct would be more appropriate for a cooler that's mounted way out of the way of any significant airflow at speed, hence the need for a length of hose and sealing it against ducts on either end and bringing fresh air to it.

I'm also very unsure that there's enough room directly behind the fog light assembly to put all that stuff. It's a tight spot back there. The wheel well liners are very close to the fogs; so close that regular brake duct hoses cannot be properly routed with the liners in place.

I like the Perrin approach to oil cooler mounting (front and center on the undertray); others will say that it will interfere with a FMIC's charge cooling ability, but Perrin tested that with a Vortech kit and saw little significant increase in IAT while running their oil cooler in front of the Vortech IC. It also has the perk of not requiring more openings to be made on the front of the car, creating more drag.

I thought the Perrin one was the way to go too. Aparently though they hae been having problems with the actual cooler portion that they get from Mocal. This is my experience with it and Perrin : Thread

Dang, dude. You really want to make sure everyone hears your issue with Perrin. It sucks that you're having problems, but this is the 3rd (or 4th?) thread you've posted this.

Perrin is typically very good with their customer support. Hopefully @PERRIN_Mladen can chime in and take care of you.

It's not like Perrin isn't trying to fix his issue, they're just not fixing it the way he expects.

After reading the thread, I want to apologize for the issue first off. We are in the hands of Mocal currently as we are still waiting on a definite ETA from them, but we should have an ETA by tomorrow.

I'm very happy to see that @FT-86 SpeedFactory has taken care of you! We are always going to stand behind our product and do the best we can to get you, as the customer, satisfied. However, with this certain issue, we really don't want to get you something else sent out, when there could be the same issue. We want to make 110% sure that the replacement you would get, would never cause an issue for you! Had this been a part that was directly made by us, we would have gladly sent you out a replacement after inspection by us!

I saw that you mentioned that you believe we continued selling the part knowing there was an issue. There may have been a miscommunication between you and Chris, but that is incorrect. The moment the issue was brought to our attention (and verified with a local customers car), we stopped selling the oil cooler kit, and emailed every customer we sold one directly to, to have them check their cores. We would never sell anyone a defective part knowingly.

Once again, I want to apologize for the issue that you have ran into, and I hope you still choose to do business with us in the future.

Shoot me a PM if you have any further questions.

We have just received word from Mocal and they are expediting a batch over to use and it should be in our hands in about 2 weeks!

That means, we should hopefully have them ready to go a week after we receive them. They were also very alarmed at the failure rate we are seeing and are going to great lengths to take care of us, which in turn means take care of you, the customer!

Also, the oil coolers that are being sent out to us are their new version! They are going to be black vs the silver one we had originally.

Side note - If you have the oil cooler already installed on your vehicle and are afraid it's defective, simply let your car run for roughly 5 minutes and check for a leak. If there is no leak, then your oil cooler is good to go!

Thanks for the updates! My order is still open with @FT-86 SpeedFactory so I'm going to keep it open now that I know they aren't too far from shipping. The new black cooler cores are great news! I'd prefer a black one anyways!

There may be a chance that there is still a few silver ones that get sent back to us after Mocal checks them, if they are good of course. After this batch, all of the oil coolers will be black.

Since you'd prefer the black one, I can do what I can to see that you get a black one! It makes it a bit more difficult since you ordered it through FT86, but as I said, I will do what I can for you!
