I've filled up my frs and still the needle reads little above the 3/4 level...I've done the disconnect battery and it returned back to full....several months passed and here we go again, wtf?!

This happens with mine once in a while. I've noticed it only occurs when topping up the tank if it is already over 1/2 full. If I let it get below 1/2 a tank before filling, the gauge reads full. The first time this happened, I stopped at the next gas station a block up the road, and wondered why it wouldn't take any more fuel.

I had a MX-5 that did this from time to time.

Did you continue to put gas in it after the pump "clicked off" ..??

Did it "right itself" after driven a few miles ..??

Can you correlate this phenomena with a particular gas pump .. ??

Both my MX-5 and my FR-S do the same thing. Just drive it and after you park it will read correctly next time you start it up. Saw an explanation somewhere but can't remember the exact reason, something to do with there being dual tanks connected together and how the sensor works. I never let my cars go below 1/2 tank so I get this often. I know there's nothing wrong so it doesn't bother me anymore.

This has already been brought up. For most it was caused when filling up before the gauge was below half.

Recently happened to me as well after topping off at 3/4 tank. Worked fine after running down to 1/4 and filling up again. Freaked me out at first since I just had the pump and injectors upgraded.

Odd I never encountered this, and I never let my tank go below half. Had the frs since it's release last year. Knock on wood

Old ecutek tunes did this when they were trying to get the lcd to display fuel remaining. Used car with an old tune?

This is a manufacture issue. I too have had problems with my fuel gauge misreading.

I was going to post a thread about it but I read a few threads that had covered the issue but not specifically.. Now that I have seen this I'd like to share.

After about 6000 miles I started having fuel gauge issues. I like to note that I have always used premium grade fuel from the best location in town and I have never continued fueling after auto-stop. I take over obsessive care of my car and kept the area clean.

That being said, the issue I have is when my tank gets even below 1/2 and lower, when I put fuel in, whether it be $10 worth or even $20 the gauge does not move up, yet continues to drop as I use more fuel. This results in driving around with the fuel light on and needle at it's lowest state even with plenty of gas left in the tank. The only remedy I have found to fix it, is if I pump completely full. Then when I start the car the needle climbs back to full.

So if I don't fill the tank completely every time, the needle will only drop and never rise. This is frustrating but I am hesitant to take it in because I dread the thought of my car being taken apart. Although I have read about it, I have never tried the battery disconnect. Fuji heavy industries or not, I was hoping for Toyota reliability.

Yup. Mine also. When I picked up my car, the sales people didn't know that it was a premium fuel car, which made me nervous. So I topped it up with 92 octane every other day for a week or two. The fuel gauge didn't like that, and my needle ran down as if I had been driving that first tank without top-ups. Now I only top-up when it's at 1/2 tank or less. And I've started using an ethanol free 90 octane from 76 as well. (Silences the crickets!)
