Lost all of my keys & down to just the valet...

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I've only owned the car for 2 years and history likes to repeat itself, I'm already down to just the valet key and have no idea where my keys are, Can someone chime in with a cost effective way to replace my keys? Will the chip from the valet key work on another remote key?

There, I got that out of the way for everyone.

No real cost effective solutions right now if you want full functionality of the OEM fob. To the stealership you go!

I don't have any useful information to give, I'm afraid.

Edit: When you get the chance, buy those bluetooth devices that let you find your keys within ~60 feet.

There's one on eBay for $50, you would still need it cut and programmed though. Not sure how much programming costs but good luck.

how do you lose your keys? Isn't it attached to all your other keys... Unless you are continually replacing those too...
Maybe get one of those bluetooth keyfinder things.

This is what I did to replace one of my keys.

I ordered one on ebay from a dealership (complete key with remote). This way I could get just the blank key. $150 Best price I could find for a genuine OEM key. (Not taking chances with $20 replica junk)
Had it cut by a local locksmith. $10 - risk of the copy going wrong, then you are out $150 for a blank key.
Bought an OBDII adapter from ebay and registered the new key and fob myself. $25 - risk of bricking your ecu/car

If you are technologically inclined then try the path I went down. (it's risky)
If you are not, just pay the dealer to cut and register the new key. I'm guessing they quoted you around $250 to $300. Lower risk and pretty much guaranteed to work.

There is no reason to transplant the valet key chip into a new key with remote. The chip is molded into the plastic part of the valet key and the remote key. You could hack up your valet key and then hack up a new remote key to transplant it, but you will still need to get the remote registered to the car anyways. If you buy a remote key it only makes sense to get it registered by a dealer to use the remote functions and avoiding the hassle of transplanting the chip.

How are you losing multiple keys a year? I still have a box with leftover keys from cars I sold and forgot to get every key handed over before the buyer drove off.

You can try checking with your insurance company. I'm not sure how many of them do this, but I opted into a program with mine that replaces lost or stolen keys for no charge without an increase in premiums. Could be worth a shot.
