The reason I'm always broke - Dustin's Supercharged 86

After waiting what seemed like an eternity I finally got my car. I made a 573 mile trip to Nebraska to pick up the FRS I want. Yes the trip was a bit excessive but it was good fun.

Thanks, it already has 5k miles on it so it should be broken in already. But it'll still be fun putting some miles on it none the less.

My brother made the trip with me. He's one of the reasons I'm getting this car. He has owned an original AE86 for going on close to a decade and he's pretty stoked I'm getting this. If I didn't trade in a car on the FR-S, I would've made the cruise in his Levin.

Mmmm blacktop... Good luck! Hope you like it.

husker741 02-19-2013 04:13 AM

Congrats man! I actually looked and considered that exact car but I just went and ordered a new one at the Scion dealership in Omaha.

suaveflooder 02-20-2013 12:48 AM

where are the new pics!?!?!?!? Congrats! Just picked mine up last week! Beyond happy with my purchase!

Dustin 02-20-2013 08:57 AM

My camera battery was dead before I left. And to be honest, all day yesterday was me catching up on sleep. I was up pretty much he whole 23 hours of the trip going off of about 5 hours of sleep from the night before. I'll try to get some pics today.

Dustin 02-20-2013 08:17 PM

It's been raining today so no pics. But I did pick something up for it today. Nothing big but then again I won't be getting anything big for it for a while. I'll try to have it done by this weekend when the weather is better.

Dustin 02-20-2013 11:41 PM

I did take one pic today. A little hazy but eh..........whatever.

Khazzy 02-21-2013 12:04 AM

Where did you pick it up in Nebraska, curious lol. At least you made it home before the snow storm that is about to ravage us here in Nebraska.

Dustin 02-21-2013 12:31 AM

Performance Toyota in Lincoln.

Dustin 02-23-2013 08:05 PM

Rebadged exterior. And removed FRS emblem.

Dustin 02-25-2013 08:50 PM

Been getting little things so far, just when I have spare cash laying around. I hope within a month or two at the most to make a big purchase for the car. Still undecided on what it will be but I have a few options in mind.

Tinted the car today. 35% on the front doors and 5% everywhere else.

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/q...6/IMG_1364.jpg

Sorry for the low quality of the pics but we've been having gloomy weather here lately and it's always late when I get home so there's never much light.

Dustin 02-25-2013 11:30 PM

Lesson of the day..............don't listen to the guy at autozone and read information for yourself.

I had planned on redding my tail lights tonight and I asked the guy behind the counter which paint I needed to tint my tail lights red. I even showed him pictures of what I was wanting to do. He gave me indoor / outdoor plastic paint and I was concerned so I asked him, "Are you positive this is what I need?", and he said yes. Sure enough I now have tail lights that are painted red instead of tinted red.

Live and learn. Good thing I bought a bottle of mineral spirits to clean them before hand. It took the paint right off. Tomorrow is a new day. Hopefully I'll have them done then.

Dustin 02-26-2013 12:11 PM

Second attempt - Still drying but much better. After they dry I'll wet sand them a bit and then clear them.

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/q...6/IMG_1373.jpg

Dustin 02-26-2013 07:09 PM

I think it needs to be wet sanded a little more but I like it!!

Dustin 02-27-2013 06:23 PM

Rebadged my key as well. I didn't buy the JDM cover. I just ordered a backing from Toyota. It's $2.98 from http://www.toyotapartsoverstock.com/...erm=8975133070

Correct. That is currently getting a V8 swap.

Dustin 02-27-2013 08:39 PM

It seems to be just a shade lighter than the top part of the cover but no one would ever notice if you didn't say anything. So if you want to match perfectly $19.00 for the JDM cover isn't exactly a bank breaker but if you want to go even cheaper and aren't excessively anal about things (not saying that's a bad thing at all) then for $3.00 you can rebadge your key to Toyota as well.

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/q...6/IMG_1387.jpg

Dustin 03-21-2013 08:19 PM

Trying a different option than the norm for my front brakes. It's a Brembo 4 piston caliper like others have done but not from an STI. I'll post more info when I find out if it's going to be a viable option.

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/q...BCD566D8AD.jpg

Dustin 04-09-2013 07:41 PM

Got a call from my parts guy telling me my rotors are in. I had to wait a couple of weeks so I wouldn't be charged shipping and he could get them in on his bulk order for the store. I'll be picking them up tomorrow and then this weekend hopefully start working on the front brake setup.

On a separate note.........UPS man brought me my springs today!!

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/q...6/IMG_1394.jpg

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/q...6/IMG_1396.jpg

Dustin 04-11-2013 05:52 PM

Couldn't wait until this weekend. So I installed the springs and took some measurements for the brakes. Looks like the calipers I was looking at aren't going to work. But at least my car is lowered. Makes me realize how bad I need wheels.

Dustin 04-24-2013 06:00 PM

Well to make a long story short I messed up my AC condenser and had to order a new one. Dealer list price is like $415 plus tax. I ordered mine from www.onlinetoyotaparts.com for $283.78. Shipping was $34.05 bringing the total to $317.83. It only took 6 days to get here from start to finish and they provided a tracking number. I would highly recommend anyone needing to buy OEM parts to use them.

Picked up a set of RH Evolution C2's today. They have shit tires on them so I'll need new ones and they need to be cleaned up. Both will be done before they go on my car. But I'm happy with them.

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/q.../86/null-6.jpg

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/q...6/null-1-1.jpg

Just put the one on to see how I'd like them. I'm digging it.

Dustin 06-02-2013 09:48 AM

My brother was sneaky and replaced the screws that hold on my back licens plate with a BWR gold hardware kit.

http://i456.photobucket.com/albums/q.../86/null-8.jpg

Dustin 06-29-2013 08:03 PM

They look nice. How are they holding up, quality wise? Also, what kind of paint did you end up using?

Sweet choice of wheels

I used VHT Nite Shades. It's holding up okay but the top of the lights are fading a little. Either I didn't do them well enough or they're just getting weathered. It was my first attempt at doing them. I might try doing them again but sooner or later I'm probably gonna look into getting aftermarket.

Thanks. I got them used. I'm not a fan of the stock wheels and I wasn't going to have the money in time to get the wheels I wanted before a meet I'm going to next month so I picked up these for the time being. If you're free the first weekend of August, we're having a meet/cruise down is Austin that so far is looking to have a great turn out. There's always room for more!!

Here's the link to the thread : http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39300

tennisfreak 07-20-2013 11:00 AM

Yeah the meet in Austin in on my list and will attend as long as the wife and kids don't need me.

Can I ask where you looked for used wheels? Craigslist? Im in the market for wheels and would not mind used if it saves some $$$$

YangerD 07-20-2013 11:16 AM

Nice car! Everything seems to be coming along nicely :)

djdnz 07-20-2013 11:53 AM

Like the wheels a lot, they compliment the car nicely.

My brother got them long ago for my mom's MR2 and she thought they looked too big. I think he got them from craigslist.

Thanks. Slowly but surely. I'm holding off from buying a lot of little things right now because no one in my family can ever decide what to get me for Christmas, birthdays, ect. So at the end of this year I'll have some of the little things I want knocked out hopefully, lol.

I'm happy with them for the moment. Not exactly what I want but they'll serve their purpose.
