Veeeeery curious about this. It would be the perfect replacement for autocrossing and every day driving. It sounds like it's not too loud for a DD.
Is the 4" muffler louder than the 5"? I'm assuming so but does anyone know the difference? |

I took some video of this with my phone but it doesn't sound close to I hear in-person so I never bothered posting it (it actually sounds amazingly deep and bassy in video, but I don't think it sounds as good in person when I'm driving it). Its different depending on what speakers/headphones I used too - I really don't think videos are accurate representations of exhaust sounds.
I tried to describe it as best I can in my previous post already. I personally think all videos don't accurately represent ANY exhaust.. that's just my view. I trust somebody's written description or my own ears in-person rather than an internet video. The quality of the mic used, the acoustics of the environment, post processing (whether you just used the video straight from the raw data), and most importantly, the end speaker/headphone being used all change how it sounds. |

Disclaimer: I have an AT, so my comments on drone, rpm, etc. may not be the same for MT users as the ratios are different.
I just bought one of these from a fellow member (14BRZ) who had the unmuffled version installed and ended up selling the unused muffled one he decided not to use. He was nice enough to throw it on for me when I picked it up so I could test it out on the way home (I also don't have a floor jack so I was probably going to kill myself putting it on). It's definitely loud. A lot of people seem to suggest it's super fine for DD - I plan to DD it, but I have to say it's really up there with what I would consider the upper end of acceptable for not like making everyone stop what they're doing and figure out what the hell that noise is. Anything above 2500 turns heads real quick below about 4th/5th. It sounds beautiful, and is very, very growly with a deep rumble. Sometimes it does get a little drone-y/resonate-y off of passing objects/large trucks in a not attractive way. The other issue is that it's a driver side single pipe, so you suffer the brunt of the drone/noise with the window up or down when it happens. I noticed that in the higher gears (5/6), 2500RPM seemed to be the point that unleashed a reallllll harsh drone in the cabin. This only really happened with the windows up, the wind blasting noise even from a cracked window was enough to cut it down. But staying at around 75 in a pack of cars really started to grate on me and I honestly would have worn earplugs if I had them. I'm also not a super showy dude personally so while I want a great sounding exhaust that makes the car sound aggressive, I don't want one that everyone around me is forced to stare at because it sounds like a dumpster full of chainsaws. 2500RPM in 6th is that sound, at least in the cabin. Did not like that, but it's the only downside. The good thing is that backing off the throttle silences this exhaust really quick outside of 2nd/3rd, so if it gets droney, unless I'm climbing a hill it's easy to fix by going a bit faster or slower and backing off. Climbing a hill is when this exhaust is a little loud for my tastes, and gets the most drone. Slight highway grades do the same thing. All said however, this pipe weighs NOTHING compared to stock and looks great. Sound is at the upper level of what I would consider street appropriate as I live in L.A. proper and there's plenty of loud cars everywhere. It's nice that the FRS can turn some heads now too based on sound alone. The sound it gives off when really laying into it is beautiful, and listening to it go from 1st to 6th with WOT is an experience compared to stock. For $200, there isn't even anything that comes close to the value you get here. Looked at a lot of cat and axleback systems and for the price this is crazy. I'm very happy with mine. If I get a chance I'll MAYBE record it and DEFINITELY take some pics - but I obviously think video of exhaust noise isn't helpful. I didn't hear any similarity in person with what I had heard before in videos/etc. If anyone is in socal/LA area (west side in particular) and wants to hear it in person, I'm game. |

Well since I bought mine from a member instead of waiting for the turnaround time, I canceled my nameless order. It was the fourth business day since I ordered but they still charged me a 50% restocking fee, which is whatever I guess. My fault for not canceling sooner.
Regardless, they charged 50% restocking INCLUDING SHIPPING. I had paid a bunch for reasonably fast shipping. They didn't pay a single cent yet for shipping, but decided jacking half of it from me though it had no bearing on the order cost was okay. If you order from nameless, just choose the cheapest shipping and upgrade before they send it if you might cancel. That's really bad business in my opinion. No other industry I've worked in/purchased in pulls restocking from anything other than the value of the product. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

I have the 5" version and although I love it, it is a bit loud for Daily use. I feel horrible for driving through neighborhoods at night. I have also come to terms with the fact that I can't drive some of my favorite roads because of how loud the exhaust is. Anything above moderate throttle and the car screams. I have thought about buying another one without the tip to utilize in a custom midpipe to help cut it down further. Once I get my card cleared on my Go Pro, I'll get some sound clips.

Nope. The muffler is really small, and though I like it when I'm out in the Malibu mountains, in town laying into the throttle is obnoxious. It's personal preference but I haven't encountered a car louder than me so far, and I don't like that.
The biggest issue is it sounds louder in the car than it does outside, and it sounds LOUD in the car. At least for me, and that isn't my favorite unless that's what I'm in a particular place to do. Driving to class in the morning is not when I want to feel like I'm in a track car. Hard to hear my radio. Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk

Gutted Cats, otherwise stock. So I know that gives me some sound, but this is WAY too much for me. It may not be as loud outside the car as it does inside, but you might as well throw listening/talking to passengers out the window if you are doing any kind of heavy throttle. Cruising is great, and there isn't drone. It was perfect when I first installed it, but it seems to have gotten louder as it broke in.
Don't get me started on cold starts... On the plus side, it is an amazing sounding exhaust, and worth every penny(and the weeks of waiting) as long as you can deal with how loud it is. All my car friends say the sound is perfect and not to change a thing, but i haven't got a chance to ask how loud it is with the windows up. I will try to see if I can get a friend to drive by me with the windows up/music off and let me do a WOT pull pass them to see how loud it is.
