It is flywheel rattle. I have had the same noise since day one. When you are in neutral coming to a stop, if most of you notice your RPM's will dip for a moment and that is when the rattle becomes more pronounced, or when letting the revs get low in a particular gear. I'm not going to try and get technical because someone will just quote me and and correct something that I said wrong. I had the same issue in my wrx, my father had the same issue in his evo and his tacoma.
As for fixing the issue, yeah it may be annoying but it is something you are going to have to live with unfortunately. When you go to a lightened flywheel, the chattering will get louder and occur more often. I actually have the chatter at idle too and I'm on the stock clutch/flywheel assembly.

flywheel chatter is just an indication that your flywheel is still attached to your engine! It's a good sound

1. nor·mal

ˈnôrməl/

adjective

adjective: normal

1. 1.

conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.

"it's quite normal forpuppies to bolt their food"

synonyms:
usual, standard, ordinary, customary, conventional, habitual, accustomed, expected, wonted; More
typical, stock, common, everyday, regular, routine, established, set, fixed, traditional, time-honored
"they issue books in the normal way"
ordinary, average, typical, run-of-the-mill, middle-of-the-road, common, conventional, mainstream, unremarkable, unexceptional, garden-variety, a dime a dozen
"a normal couple"
antonyms:
unusual

PLEASE no more "me too"

There are no TSBs, fixes or workarounds as this is not a PROBLEM!

If it "annoys" you:
1) turn up the music
2) get louder exhaust
3) put 100 pounds of sound deadening material in your sports car
4) trade for a Lexus

I tested this last night, i put the car in higer gear while going slow enough to get the RPMS to dip around 600.

The noise was exactly the same as when braking in neutral with the AC on when coming to a stop around 30mph.

The noise has to be engine load related. I also tested a neutral stop ac on while decelerating rather quicky and there was no RPM drop and no noise which makes me think that because the engine had extra time to idle during a slower deceleration, that either intake air flow or a fuel thing makes the car quickly dip rpms causing the noise. In conclusion i believe has to do something with the ac compressor load and idle rpms when decelerating slowly. IE: Not a problem. Enjoy your car.

Also, there are these cricket sounds?

Is there a fix for this yet? Its the worst problem in the whole world and I'm gonna complain all the time...oh wait, I'll let the other 99% of the forum take care of that.

Geez had me fooled at the start of this post. Thought "oh god another"

And my deleted cat, 5 inch exhaust is TOOOO noisy
And my engine blew up after only adding 200 pounds of FI
And my 20 x 10 inch tires rub and break axles
And my tranny grinds even though I only use 3rd and 6th gear
And the paint all came off my bumper even though I only did a 5 inch drop

COME ON Toyota/Subaru where are the fixes for these! Car should be made to take these mods!!!!!!!

Seriously!

The amount of problems that Toyota/Scion/Subaru have not addressed yet is staggering.
Plus, this car is slow! If I knew this car was so slow, I never would have purchased it after reading a thousand reviews and doing 2 different test drives.
I really feel violated by Toyota/Scion/Subaru.

I upgraded from a honda civic with tasteful mods. I had a nice exhaust that made a deep farting sound, upgraded clutch, medium-sized 8" tachometer(0-12,000 rpms) on the dash, badass led light underglow, a "shocker" sticker on the window, a BUNCH of ebayracing parts, and of course my raceteams name on the car too(our street race name was Tha' v8 killerz which later got changed to VTEC Mobbin' after I did a "legal" engine swap). Oh, and the car was never painted, cause I liked the primer look, plus I never got to fully complete my body kit that was carefully semi-pieced together over the years searching Craigslist.

The FRS is SO hard to make power in, and no one takes me seriously when I post up "Which FI kit should I get" or "What exhaust is the best?". People just post up saying, SEARCH. What the hell is "Search"? Is that a brand or something? Would it really be that difficult to post up a link to a 8 or 900 dollar ebay turbo kit?

I hear your pain! I have been looking for a good boost gauge to hose clamp on the A pillar so I will be ready when I adapt the turbo from a Golf TSI (love me some black smoke) that I bought for $100 from some homeless guy. But until then will have to settle for the underwhelming engine that I read on the MustangIsTheOnlyTrueCar website has the same horse power as their starter motors.
This car should have been a 600hp, turboed, electronic gadgeted, dream machine with real unicorn skin interior and retailed for $10,000 but noooo all they gave us was some sports car wanttabe!

Oh other car manufacturers heard about the cricket problem, saw how popular the cars still were and are adding them to their own new models! Of course they are more upscale so BMW calls them "grasshoppers" and Jag uses the name "locusts".

Bump

I'm going to throw a wrench into this hypothesis about the flywheel when the same exact thing happens in my a/t.
