I can't believe there are people who defend street racing.
The biggest "determinant" in street "racing" is how reckless you are. It doesn't really matter what car you have or your skill, the person who "wins" is the person who holds other people's lives in the least regard. There is no "racing" about it. It is extreme selfishness with a complete disregard for the other motorists on the road. And when you hit things head on, often your car is well protected and it ends up being bystanders who pay the ultimate price for your ego, as what happened in this case. Unless you are talking about street drag racing, but that's retarded on a completely different level. |

I can't really comment on racing per se, but....
Here in Okinawa, practicing your drifting skills on the street is pretty much mandatory. The tracks that we have here are small, and not open often enough for the entire population to get in more than an hour or so behind the wheel every two weeks or monthly. I've known young Japanese guys that drift 3-4 hours every night. They live at home with family and spend almost their whole paychecks on tires and repairs. There are no options to rack up that sort of experience in a legal, affordable manner. That said, late last year a friend of mine, an experienced drifter, killed a ~60yo construction worker. He wasn't even drifting at the time, he just recklessly chose to flee from a cop car that was kinda-sorta-following him. Which he wouldn't have needed to do if he wasn't driving with a suspended license...while on probation....in both the US AND Japan. -_- Now he's looking at 7 years for vehicular homicide.

I definitely won't throw rocks in a glass house and say I never did it, but you tend to grow up, mature and weigh your actions on how it affects other people
That being said... There is a time and place for everything, but you really can't justify street racing on public roads... ever. It's not that your driving is bad (a lot of the times that is the case though)... it's the OTHER people around you who don't know how to behave, act or react to a car coming by them at a ludicrous amounts of speed. America isn't like Germany.... where people are taught drive correctly, or deal with a car approaching them at 150mph+ by not lol troll turning into the left lane before putting their blinker on. This is the land of people using no turn signals, undertaking, hogging the left lane, texting and the occasional lunar crater in the road every 300ft. The bottom line is, american roads literally and figuratively are not built for speed freaks End of the day if your going to drive the balls off your car against another person take it to a track... if you don't have the money to afford one, find a different hobby maybe or mature up and calm your ego?
