I am! Huge issue with the 6s as its happened to 1/3 of Mazda6S owners on the forums. Exact same situation.
And yes the CEL was illuminated, but I had an intake that set off the CEL long before then and had straight pipes, so I never heard it knocking. By the time it started flashing the CEL, it was too late.

There's a bigger thread out there with tons of people saying they had trouble (its n 6Crew), but the site is buggy and I can't search for some reason. Ergh.

did you ever pull codes after you put your intake on? there should be several P0300 codes stored if the spark plugs look like that.
it's just odd that the whole time i worked in a mazda dealership, i never witnessed anything like this.

It generally happens after 100k miles. Mazda refused to do a recall on them cuz it would cost a ton with blown motors and such. I do believe there is a TSB out for it though.
I did pull the codes and took it to the stealership who charged me 300 bucks to put it on the rack and replace an ignition coil. That's when they said the plugs were fine. They never looked at the plugs or they'd have known the plugs were wasted. |

Yea. The motor its self is INCREDIBLY stout. The only issue is the headers that were used on them were absolute trash. Every other car that used this motor has had no problems at all. I was planning on upgrading to the headers later on anyway, but now I'm kind of forced into it.
