Does .1mm matter for hub centric rings? 65.1mm to 56.1mm vs 65mm to 56.1mm - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I am looking to get some hub centric rings for my new set of wheels. The size I need is 65mm to 56.1mm, which is apparently pretty rare. The wheels are bronze, so I kind of don't want silver hub rings because I think it would look weird. This REALLY limits my choices lol.

I found these rings on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Set-4x-Spig...-/292847184884

They are 65.1mm to 56.1mm. My question is, will that .1mm make enough difference that they won't fit?

It's .1mm, if anything take a hammer to it

Use a fine file or dremel if required on the ring if you need clearance.

Please don't hammer it on or in.

Until you need to remove it, or put on a spare, especially if it is on the hub, and your trying to fit a spare.

Hammering it to make it fit is lazy and shows poor mechanical aptitude.

If you can actually see the hub rings when the wheels are on the car something is very wrong.

I'd very much wish to see hubrings, if they would be of wished size while being made in this form.

Or, hear me out here, dont use something that is not necessary? You dont "need" hub centric rings, nobody does, conical lugnuts (which 100% of the aftermarket wheels use) seat the wheels properly.

Not necessarily true, the stud holes in the hub aren’t nearly as accurately located as the hubcentric surface. It depends on how tactile you are, but I can absolutely feel the difference between rings and no rings, even with conical lugs torqued in a proper pattern. Lugcentric might be good enough for a 5000lb pickup truck, but on these cars it is noticeable. It also depends on the tolerance stack ups on your particular car. Maybe you got lucky and got hubs with stud holes located very close to nominal position, but more than likely you won’t get that lucky on all 4 of them. It will be worse on some cars than others, but the hub rings take that variable out.

If it wasn’t necessary for the wheels to be hubcentric, trust me, OEMs would not bother with it.

My understanding of how the hub rings fit on the wheel must not be right. I already ordered these ebay ones, they were only like $8. I will test fit them and see how they fit and then go from there.

Not "needed", true. Lugnuts tightened in right order should center wheel well. They make easier installation though (especially on bmw-ish like lug studs for mounting instead of studs and lug nuts), and net some piece of mind for relatively low cost, waay less then that of some aftermarket lugnuts. There can be lot of mods/parts for car with higher cost and even less function (have everybody already installed TRD fuel cap?

). Those who wish, can save slightly $ getting by without, those that wish them won't go bankrupt either.

.1mm of interference is .1mm of interference. That shit ain't going on, and dremeling away material will just negate the entire purpose of a hubcentric ring.

Yea definitely. That's 4/1000", a pretty heavy press fit. And if they don't fit I agree, get different ones.
