I'm glad I didn't wait because I've been enjoying the hell out of my BRZ for the last 5k miles. Is it perfect? No. But it's been so much fun I've been able to overlook the imperfections.

Crickets, bah.
Condensation is fixed.
2nd gear shifts? Just need to get used to the transmission IMO. It isn't the greatest and it isn't the worst.

The only real important issue I've seen come up is the CEL, but do't really see that as a reason to avoid the car.

So what you're saying is that the little problems don't bother you, right? You don't mind crickets under your hood? Or the balky 2nd gear shift? Great, but that's the kind of stuff that causes some people to avoid 1st year cars. Obviously everyone has to make his/her own choice on when to buy (or if to buy at all). BTW, if the condensation issue is fixed (which I didn't know it was), then that just supports the whole idea that the early adopters deal with getting all the bugs worked out and people who hold off shouldn't have to deal with those little issues.

So these problems are fixed at the assembly line in that first year when they figure them out, right? or do they just go on with production as is and fix the problems at the dealer when they arise?

There's no set rule on how it works. When a company identifies a common problem and comes up with a fix for it, they generally try to incorporate the fix on the manufacturing line as soon as they can. That way they'll have fewer issues to "correct" after the car is delivered to the customer. If there's a fix and it isn't implemented on the manufacturing line, they'll often deal with it at the dealership before the customer takes delivery of the car. And if the car is already delivered to the customer, then of course the dealership will make corrections under warranty when the fix is available & implemented.

The condensation issues are not fixed. Cars manufactured long after the implementation of the assembly line fixes are still developing condensation. Further, there are owners on their second and third sets of replacement taililights that are still having condensation issues.

The CEL issue is a killer...it has happened to enough people to make it a serious problem (By many estimates 5%/which is terrible). Many of those who are treated to the CEL "fixes" often have recurring instances of the CEL/power loss, or catastrophic engine failure down the road.

I don't think the BRZ/FR-S has any more or less problems for a first year car. It only seems that way because there is a sub-forum dedicated only to problems & complaints.

WHITESHADOW: Are you an owner of an FRS or BRZ or just a person who only wants to diminish the value of the vehicle?

I disagree. The 05 had better hubs, a more friendly diff and a new center stack. I still liked my 04' better. That suretrac diff was fun and the car just felt raw and playful. I liked my 99' even better to be honest. My 08' was nice but I still think the 99' sti was my favorite. The wrx sti got more refined but it got less fun as the years went by in my opinion, especially after the GC8 chassis.

The 08' wrx was a pretty large step backwards from the 06-07 wrx.

The GR sti has been pretty much the same for the last 5 years.

rumor is the new wrx might be using the Fa20 engine bud.

also slow? obviously some people havent learned how to drive a slow car fast , id rather drive a slow car fast then a fast car like a wuss lol try some corners in this thing itll change your mind i just came out of a fully tuned up E36 M3 and i have to say this thing almost feels flatter through corners even with stock set up its remarkable. also the visibility out the front window id brilliant you can actually visually see the apex of every corner like its staring right at you.

also think the car is under warrantee so any "bugs" will be removed from the free fixes. in addition, if they call the new FA20 a crap motor warrantee will give me the one that doesnt break or i just lemon law the car and get a new model

but each person must make the call according to what is most convenient to them and what will or wont break your pocket.

goodluck with your choice hope it works out for the best in your interest sir.

yah i find people to complain and bitch about way too many things. this isnt a benz or ferrari expect it to be cheaply made compared to higher end cars it is a 24,000$ sports car after all.

rattle feeling in the shifter? umm im pretty sure most cars ive driven that are manual gearbox have that the gear linkage is connected to the damn gearbox derpty derp lol. and the only problem knock on wood that ive experienced. is the condensation in teh tail light and the Highpreasure fuel pump chirp i got jimmeny cricket up in this bitch lol but my friend works at toyota as a tech and told me to wait for the proper fixed pump, instead of taking the same one that will continue to chirp even after 1-50 miles of replacement. the gear box feels a little stiff when its dumb cold out and hasnt been driven once i drive it for a few miles and the car is totally warmed up i feel no crunchy gears really.
