I just moved out here not too long ago. I live in Ahwatukee in an apartment which isn't too bad for now. The apartment has a garage for both my cars. Another plus is that I live about 5 mins away from the dealership I work at. Heading up to Scottsdale or Tempe for night life is about 15 min away.

So would anyone want to help me move in if necessary? I will never hire movers as I am a bigger/stronger guy. But i figure it would be a good chance to meet some people in an area that I wouldnt know a single soul.

Roosevelt Square in downtown is a cool place. Great location for where you are going to work. I've been here since '75 so i know the area really well. Stay in Phoenix/Scottsdale/Tempe. Gilbert is too far away from everything. The Phoenix area is very spread out and a car is a necessity. That said, you'd probably want to be more centrally located than way out in the outskirts. Yes, downtown Phoenix does not have the nightlife of other big cities, but there are things to do. Plus, it's a quick trip over to Scottsdale or Tempe. You can even take the light rail to Tempe if you don't want to drive. Proximity to work is a good idea. If you are going to work downtown during normal 8-5 hours m-f, and you get a place in Gilbert, expect a LONG commute to and from work every day. Scottsdale and Tempe wouldn't be that bad, 20-30 mins tops probably.

How far are you willing to commute?
I would honestly suggest you try to find a place in Tempe since it's central and after a year you can figure out if you want to move to a different part of the valley. I know that San Marquis is a new apartment complex in Tempe and they've got garages. And there's Biltmore Square in Phoenix that has a community. But if you have any questions, you can shoot me a PM. I'm the same age as you and have friends that live throughout the valley so I can help give suggestions. |

- Trilliam Papago, I believe, is in an area that a little under developed so there aren't too many stores near by. You'll probably have a good amount of privacy though and it's pretty central to the entire valley so getting around should be easy. - Haven is pretty close to the ASU campus and if you work West of there, I think you'll have to deal with a lot of traffic cuz of the college kids running around. I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of the people that live in that complex go to ASU, but I do think it's a good location for what you're looking for. - Aspire Pinnacle Peak is farrrrr~ - Trillium North is also far... - Residences at 4225 isn't a bad area, but it's a little more on the sketchy side (I used to live on 24th and McDowell). On the bright side, there's a Costco, Target, Fry's, and an IHOP on 48th ST and Oak. - Mirabella is far too... - Estates on Maryland is in an area I'm not too familiar with... The places that I consider far are probably some of the nicest and newest though. Lakeview at the Bay is nice and they've got a big fitness center, basketball courts, and a tennis court. |
