this unit does look very nice. its got me very interested

edit: never mind saw the price. This is what is killing units like these. The features look great, it seems solid, but the price is sky high

Just watched the videos, and on the second one it looks like it can connect to the OBDII port. If it can, I'm suddenly very interested.

I noticed this is a common thing with a lot of headunits. Fancy but laggy interfaces.

it's typical for all electronics. There will be another better faster model come out soon
So far this is the best loaded nav unit and gui on the market today.

Of the major players, it's one of the best I've seen.

I have to say...10-15 years ago I wouldn't touch Kenwood (or pioneer for that matter) and was die hard Alpine. They made the best fold out in dash player bar none. Man, things have changed. You couldn't pay me to put an alpine in my car (literally!! They gave me 4 of their new 8" double din units after CES last year and I dumped them all on eBay ) and now Kenwood has really stepped up their game. I started using 61xx double dins about 4-5 years back and my customers loved them. Easy install (everything built in to HU) and features were easy to use and navigation worked great and sound quality was good too. That was a major turning point for Kenwood. I watched the videos in this thread and it looks like they have really done a nice job.

Only thing alpine has going for them is the oversized screen...other than that they are slow and laggy and the graphics a very dated. I know @2forme has tested the Pioneer app radio and had good things to say about it but I'm still not a fan of pioneer car audio in the slightest.

My personal choice is to keep things looking stock. I don't mind the OEM deck in the Limited BRZ as it has lots of features and does the job. If I were to build the car out for audio, I would most likely keep the deck and go with a Rockford 360 interface for my F/R/Sub outs and the ability to dial in each channel with 31 bands of EQ via laptop. I had a similar setup in my M45 and the sound was incredible but the car looked bone stock.

I think the FR-S crowd has no choice when it comes to swapping the HU so this Kenwood seems to be a great option. I'll make a point to check it out in person.

Alpine is the brand I go for, but this new 990 blow the rest by far at this moment! Perfect for this car

Too much money, plus I'm part Italian. I hold a grudge for a loooong time. Kenwood burned me on a lemon unit 20 years ago and I still refuse to buy anything with their name on it.
